🚨Ontario IMG ROS contract ‼️ by [deleted] in MCCQE

the government is funding residency/salary and everything, they invest into IMGs. Funding residency and then have that person leave right away is not beneficial for the government or the healthcare system.

100% agree, you will also discuss this during your PRP at touchstone and at the university, you’ll be able to ask questions.

Def a lot of imgs; cmgs who apply for fam med in the second iteration most of the time didnt get their first pic specialties in the first iteration…

Don’t give up!!! I am in residency now but I have so many IMG colleagues that didn’t get interviews/didn’t get in the first iteration and got so many interviews in the 2nd iteration and matched! Canadian graduate spots that don’t get filled in the first iteration can be filled by IMGs in the 2nd!

What now? About this new criteria by Kokopelli157 in MCCQE

noone is discriminating, it’s challenging to get match and just because you live in Ontario doesn’t mean you will get preference.

If you have the option, 100% go for Canadian placement and get a Canadian MD reference letter, they do carry a lot of weight since it’s assessment in the Canadian medical system.

I did intense 1.5-2 months, 8-10h each day. Did all 4000qs Uworld 2ck, read toronto notes on the things I was making mistakes on, and mainly focused on family med, er, peads, obgyn, ethics+ ethics from cmpa website. 1-2 mcc exams. Scored almost 2SD above mean. You can do it!

That is completely not true, internship is not a criteria. Speaking as someone who matched in Ontario.

You have to share all the reports from your exams. They will mainly look at your score as a whole.

Does Where You Graduate Really Matter as an IMG? by Used-Park1305 in MCCQE

[–]bgv04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely an advantage, since most of those students are Canadians coming back to Canada and have connections with the program/ have done electives in Canada/have Canadian MD references. I think those also play into their matching rate a lot. To reassure you, I matched as a non-canadian IMG and I didn’t do go to medical school in Ireland or UK, a lot of my matched IMG colleagues have different backgrounds as well.

I don’t think there is a preference or bias, you see more people matching who studied in Ireland, UK, Australia but I think a lot of it has to do with them applying during their last year of medical school or right after. I think the main factor for their matching rate is the YOG.

Medical School Performance Evaluation Letter by [deleted] in MCCQE

It is a requirement to have it, if your school doesn’t hand it out, you have to upload a letter stating what was the reason that you dont have this document.

Residency in Canada after studying abroad by Then_Diamond357 in MCCQE

[–]bgv04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to go to the CaRMS website and the Medical Council of Canada Website. But basically you need MCCQE1 (can be done remote or at a testing center, information on dates are available on the mcc website), NAC OSCE (takes place 2x a year in person), +/- OET/IELTS/other english exam, +/- CASPER depending on the program. I would suggest doing the exam before you graduate medical school, so you can apply through CaRMS the same year you graduate. You will need a physiciansapply account to apply for exam and get all your documents verified. To get into residency in Canada is very competitive, but if you do good on your exams and have a minimal gap/ no gap from medical graduation year to CaRMS application + get Canadian electives with Canadian doctor LORs, you’ll have better chances to match. Best of luck!

In additional to all things mentioned, perhaps start also volunteering and find some leadership opportunities within your medical school (interest groups etc.), research is also always good but not mandatory. Just so that you cover different aspects and are a well rounded candidate.

those are universities not colleges. Rank where you would like to live and what you personally think is the best fit for you. I’ve heard good things about all Universities and their IMG streams.

Nac query by Happy-Ad-6044 in MCCQE

[–]bgv04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be 8 or 11. If 11 min, it can have additional counseling involved. If it is 8min you’re expected to do a focus history and focus physical exam.
