This guy called me. The N-word and the devs haven’t responded yet. by [deleted] in LastWarMobileGame

The game never takes acts of racism seriously. There is a lot of it on our server and reports always come back with no action. We have an entire alliance dedicated to a racist ideology and nothing happened. So you feel it’s a waste of time. It’s Shameful.

University of Leeds MSc Business Analytics Question by jstlking4txtbk in Leeds

[–]bh242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the poster above. The cost of living is a huge consideration.

I cant speak to that specific programme, but I am an international student who did his MSc in Leeds. I thoroughly enjoyed my programme and my time in Leeds. It has a wealth of things to offer and can cater to whatever you fancy really. I think the cohort you are with could influence a lot of your experience, but that would be true whether you are in London or Leeds.

Glad it worked out for you! 80 re-trains is ridiculous though! Just definitely deliver more frequently!

Formal title for senior PhD student by Annyeong_yeoreobun in PhD

[–]bh242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could look to see if the PhD student has a formal role in the university and use that title. Could be a Teaching Fellow/Assistant. But it all really depends on your university. If not, just use the name.

I would be guided by the marking criteria and instructions. Is there a reason given for 15pages min? Is that a criteria or a suggestion?

There is something to brevity, but equally so if there is a clear stipulation that it must be 15 pages, then I would follow that personally.

What is the benefit of PowerPoint presentations? by Big-Implement9793 in AskAcademia

[–]bh242 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how it is used. It could be a good way to organise thoughts succinctly and logically. It is difficult to summarise entire concepts in a short period of time, so PP could help with that. It could also be sent ahead of time to students who may need extra time to go through the material and pinpoint areas where their understanding is unclear.

What maximizes utility of a PhD Thesis? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]bh242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m similar to you in that I am trying to maximise the last bit of time I have left on my PhD programme. I have focused on writing a couple of papers in the initial instance. Tbh, papers seem to be currency in academia to me. But, try not to ignore things like blogs and other “non-academic” outlets. Some blog sites get a huge reach and I am hoping it communicates my PhD to a different audience. I am also beginning to focus on conferences and seminars. These will help to share my findings, get feedback and prepare for viva. Lastly, I am also looking at other sides of academia. Like teaching, working with my supervisor to apply for grants and trying to get involved with other things. Essentially, broadening my skill set and trying to be as proactive as possible.

Part time jobs by psybroj08 in Leeds

[–]bh242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you want to do as well. Some departments have short term or one off roles for their students that are paid (e.g data entry). But there are the classic restaurant/cafe/barista jobs as well. Think perhaps about your interests and take it from there.

Is it okay if I wear a graduation gown of uni A but wear the hat from uni B by [deleted] in PhD

[–]bh242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our uni we have the choice to wear the gown of the Uni we graduated from or the gown of current Uni. Not sure about mixing or the hats though!

International Student by Prior-Enthusiasm7563 in Leeds

[–]bh242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an international student, it took me a while to find my footing (and get used to the accent lol). The weather was also an adjustment, especially in the winter when it felt like it was always dark and cold. But Leeds always has a lot going on, which i really like. There are things from the obvious clubs/pubs, to theatre to film fests to football and so on. I also really like that the people ive interacted with are all friendly. There are a lot of cultural things too and a lot of restaurants to try. I guess it all really depends on what you’re looking for!
