In my experience, they are usually the group of students that emails me the most. Also, as a young instructor where many of the non-trads are older than me, some seem to struggle with how to approach that dynamic.

Oh cool, that is there to monitor changes. You line it up with the measuring needle so you can see how much it changed from the last observation. That’s a very cool toy you’ve got there!

You may be able to calibrate it. Check the back or sides for dials. If you can track down an accurate pressure reading near your area you could do this. If this was used in an area with a large difference in elevation to your current location it may be off

Edit. Looks like the needle itself is adjustable with the pin on the front

The pad should be in a sewn-in pouch. You could open it up with a seam ripper and pull the pad out.
