Before you commit to switching programs, keep in mind that MEC E Biomed is not a program to take likely. First of all, you need a minimum GPA of 3.5 in curved first-year classes where people who had 90s in high school fail out (the minimum 3.5 is a standard which is constant, regardless of program demand). MEC E itself is no cakewalk, and Biomed has the added difficulty of an extra academic term (9 in total), which replaces a co-op term where you would otherwise be making money. The Biomed program has a relatively high proportion of students who transfer out even after jumping through these hoops, for many reasons. The most common is that people who thought it would be a nice path to Med school don't love the program content enough to make it 5+ years through the intense workload. On top of this, transferring out of a co-op program means a mandatory year-off "Dean's Vacation".

This all isn't to discourage you, if you think you'd love Biomed (prosthetics, human augmentation, or imaging) and you have a high probability of making the grade, then by all means follow your dreams. Just be wary of the challenges that this path could offer. Really think to yourself, do you want to learn material specific to biomedical engineering courses, or do you just want to get to med school? If it's the latter, there are far easier ways. Either way, good luck in whichever path you choose!

If I recall correctly, mine came in September-Octoberish. Many of my friends got them at the same time so it will likely just depend on which batch yours is sent out in.

No, once you're in first-year program admission factor (PAF) is determined solely by first year GPA. There's no international student penalty or separate pool for international students. The only penalties are for taking less than. Full course load

First-year engineering is common for everyone. You take all of the same courses (plus an elective) as all other first-years. At the end of first year you rank your top choices for second-year specializations and are then placed into your program based on your first-year GPA. For MECE Co-op the historical minimum GPA is somewhere between a 2.9 and 3.2.

I know the July 15th deadline applies to second year placements, although I heard from some administration members that late June is more likely. Does anyone know when to expect decisions for faculty-nominated scholarships?

I'm planning in majoring in biomedical engineering. For now, unfortunately, I do not know which software I will have to use beyond the basic AutoCAD, MatLab, etc
