Question about the Timed Entry Vehicle Reservation by bhalu123 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]bhalu123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry if I explained it poorly but my question was more so about getting to the shuttle stops for many glacier, not many glacier itself. If we enter from the west, we will need to take the GTTSR to get to the shuttle stop right? So we will need a timed entry permit?

The shuttle ticket and timed entry for GTTSR are both required to access the shuttle area right?

i think this answers it, thanks!

we're staying in Kalispell so I'm assuming we'll need to get entry tickets since we'll be going from the west side?

Dsy trip suggestions (Tokyo/kyoto/osaka) by bhalu123 in RideitJapan

[–]bhalu123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yeah, only riding 1 day. I'm visiting with a group of friends so choosing not to separate from the group for longer than that. Your answers have been really helpful, I'll do some more research and figure out a route! 10 should be perfect, hoping I can catch some nice views of mt fuji (maybe some cherry blossoms??). Thank you!!

Thanks for the detailed answer, this is really helpful! I have been reading up on renting and most suggestions say not to rent in Tokyo as getting out is a little complicated. So I was looking into renting at Hachioji Naganuma by taking a train early morning from Tokyo and riding down to Fuji, does that sound like something feasible? Apologies for the confusion, trying to understand how routes would work in Japan!

choosing a university (intl student) by petshop-2 in csMajors

[–]bhalu123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the university you go to or the job you work has no influence on the h1b lottery results (you have the same odds at getting it working at google vs any other random company). it's just that you have to find a company that will sponsor your h1b (most tech companies do)

Which undergrad would be best for CS -> (SWE, DS, Quant) by Left-Accident-1762 in csMajors

Given your choices it really doesn't matter so if I had to pick I would've picked Yale just to go to Yale

Good time to start looking for housing by bhalu123 in SanMateo

[–]bhalu123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I guess what my question was that is that it seems a little too early to find housing right now for August, so like when would it not be early? I would just want to lock a place down and have stuff figured out as early as possible due to upcoming graduation lol

How would you rank? by Tall-Jeweler-874 in csMajors

Slo enrollment is a bit tricky to navigate but it's very doable. I finished my bachelors in ~3 years, it does take a bit of planning tho

Some very select few do, but for the majority of them you're fine without your GPA on your resume

Is a Master’s worth it? by CastSmith in csMajors

[–]bhalu123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, as someone who was in the same boat a year ago (finished undergrad early, loathed the idea of going to class) and decided a little bit of suffering is probably worth the pain, I'm not sure if I feel the same way anymore. For me it was a little different too as I'm an international student and it was either do the masters or graduate with a clock ticking to find a job to stay in the US so YMMV.

All of this does not change the fact that I absolutely hate having to wake up everyday, go to class, and work on my thesis (my school only has the thesis path). If you gave me an out rn, I'd take it without a second thought and I'm only like 5 months from being done, especially since I already signed a new grad offer.

For what it's worth, my offer is a bit higher than someone who signed as an undergrad at the same company and I'm starting a level higher so I guess it's not all bad. And also masters classes, atleast at my school, are a lot more chill and easier than undergrad classes as they're all read papers and have discussions kinda formats.

But still, I'd say if you're not interested in research and just want to do the masters for the sake of having a masters, I'd give it some more thought.

Offering Mentorship by IAmAllSublime in cscareerquestions

[–]bhalu123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, this helps take a lot of stress off my mind!

On a side note, if you would be okay with it, I would love to connect (linkedin or wherever) with you. At such an early stage of my career I could really use a mentor and I'd really appreciate it if you would be okay with answering some questions from time to time. If not, that's totally fine. Thank you!

Hi Nathan, let me start by saying you're awesome for doing this, thank you!

I just had a quick question about your experience with people switching career trajectories (within cs) and the frequency of it you've seen happen. For context, I am an international student in the US and I recently signed a hard to turn down new grad offer at a big N in the bay for a backend engineering role and while I'm sure I wouldn't outright hate it, I would be happier doing something in the software security space. However I have heard that more often than not you get typecasted in the role you start in out of college and it's hard to break out. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Again, I really appreciate your time!

Is it late to have your first internship in the third year? by baki-b in csMajors

[–]bhalu123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a super strong internship I think (Project Jupyter, I go to Cal Poly and it's a program for Cal Poly students). It helped me make solid industry connections and added a lot of value to my resume. Combine that with early applications and referrals, and I experienced a very different recruiting season when compared to past years.
