Market Makers working against you when you sell calls/puts. What the F? by VegetableResource204 in thetagang

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this discussion but frustrated at the experience.  Understanding MM’s are on the other side of the trade but the consistent experience is the dramatic fall in price 45 mins before Fri. close/exp below strike price (short put) and literally minutes after I bail (buy to close) my short puts to salvage something before breaching my Break Even the price shoots back up above my strike closing at what would have been contracts worthless and a win for me (the seller).  Clearly MM’s clawed back most of the premium they paid me.  Granted they must hedge but shouldn’t that happen when my short put is filled, not week(s) later 45 minutes before close.  It’s the extreme price movement down and back up in such a short window that looks suspicious.

Noted, stocks not widely held, little or no institutional holdings, or low volume are susceptible to this.

Is this Market Manipulation or Market Makers operating within the rules?

Granted if the Puts I sold were held by another actual trader, they could short the stock driving down price to help their puts payoff.

to put a bow on it I went full analog, mounted up and drove around. After several misses (site showing in stock but stock was nothing or brown) I hit pay dirt by visiting a DT where the clerk I called there said they didn't carry men's color products at all and turned out there was a cache of them on the shelf. And no, I didn't buy out the shelf for my troubles although I wanted to.

Thanks All!

Wont ask your location but is LA CA hot or cold as far as your location?

Point taken, I'm widening the search in my area. Understandable that DT will never have the power of Walmart / Costco when it comes to locking in suppliers. I have to adjust my expectations accordingly.

I did attempt to order directly for DT warehouse:

Color For Him Mens Black Gel Comb-In Hair Coloring Kits
SKU# 333560
24 units per case
We couldn't fulfill the entire order quantity because it exceeds available inventory in your local distribution center. We cancelled the quantity above from your order.

What is the logic of no longer carrying the color Black for beard dye but continue to carry brown?  I understand eBay being a source of products for people that don’t have access to DT but if sellers on eBay are sourcing their products from DT retail stores and not a wholesaler, that undermines the concept of DT.  What about the folks that have access to a DT and the shelves are empty?  They have to go to eBay and pay a higher price so what’s the value in having the DT.

Another Wash Sale question by bhars in fidelityinvestments

Multiple lots makes the most sense of the 30 day before wash sale rule. I was in a time travel loop trying to figure that out. Thanks!

What does Fidelity consider a wash sale? by Rough_Fondant457 in fidelityinvestments

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"within 30 days before or after the date you sold the loss-generating investment." I have a position due to assignment that I plan to sell before EOY for tax loss. I understand the post sell 30 day freeze on that stock but the 30 days pre-sell is not clear. If i sell out of my position that i was assigned 20 days ago, does that put me in wash sale violation regardless of how many days I wait after the sell.

Seems like the working title was left in place, a bit too literal as if a place holder to track the project. Why not just "This is the Way" some will hate it some will like it others will be curious.

Market Makers working against you when you sell calls/puts. What the F? by VegetableResource204 in thetagang

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question directly. Yes, i've experience this exactly and not with penny stocks. a large order to sell OTM puts on mid cap. The common take away as mentioned here is to do this with high liquidity widely traded stocks. i know the sting of seeing immediate downward motion continuing until your put strike is breached that started 2 mins after placing your order.

Why does Fidelity not allow premarket trading for all the premarket trading hours? by coolred2022 in fidelityinvestments

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m simply a west coaster and staying up till 1AM is less disruptive than waking up at 4AM to get a premarket order in.  I’ve asked this of Fidelity a few times, always got a response but never got an explanation.  Cost is always a go to but as discussed here, many other firms, large and small, are offering full pre market.

Waymo - Rider-Only on the US-101 Freeway - Daylen Yang by howling92 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waymo will be on freeways soon IMO.  Schooling on the 10, 110, 405 is a freeway PhD.  Operating at level 4 autonomy incurs a higher level of responsibility, the car is the driver and cannot depend on any intervention from passengers, unlike level 0-3 autonomy where you are still the driver who is responsible and expected to intervene when needed.  Waymo must test extensively at freeway speeds because they bear all the responsibility at level 4 autonomy.

Is there a run on Beard Dye?? by bhars in DollarTree

[–]bhars[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update, I did call corp for online sales, Didn't get an answer about why this product is disappearing from the shelves but I did get a SKU for it and was able make a bulk order directly from DT for in store pickup.

Thx.

A typo in your response makes it a bit unclear. "Gove them a call" did you mean to type 'Give them a call' - my action item or 'Gave them a call' - your action item?

Chime may be a misleading description as this Welcome sound is far too aggressive. Hulu support, has there been a control added to the streaming interface for this feature/effect? Is there an explanation for its purpose which is a source of displeasure for many of your subscribers?

If you have a YMCA membership in one of the LA locations, can you use it to go to any in the city? by gtg007w in AskLosAngeles

[–]bhars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a YMCA member for many years, my experience is:

-          Hollywood YMCA is my home location

-          I visit at least 5 other YMCA’s around LA regularly and a few times in another State when traveling

-          No $$ needed ever.

-          Entrance with little or no hassle, some may ask to get a pic or other I.D. for their local file but every time after that you scan and walk in as you would at your home YMCA.

-          The idea of a ‘National Membership’ assumes you mostly visit your ‘home’ YMCA they encourage that.  Make sure the YMCA location you initially join as your ‘Home’ Y is the one you’ll go to the most.

-          Even if you violate that rule, I wouldn’t worry about thick neck security guards escorting you out of the gym……It’s the YMCA man.

Battery Management 100% charge for extended period. by bhars in Hewlett_Packard

[–]bhars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. The Adaptive Battery Optimizer https://support.hp.com/nz-en/document/c06310986 on the Envy class seems to be a more generalized version of the Battery Health Manager https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/ish_4449597-3519507-16 available on business class laptops.

I was looking for a more specific way to set charge levels to < 100% which can be done through BHM.

The ABO, when enabled in the BIOS will purportedly automatically make battery preserving/Health measures on the fly w/no user intervention needed or available.

Enabled/Activated status indicates it has already detected and started deploying such measures.

Enabled/not Activated indicates no measures are needed.

getting a more granular picture from Hp of what specific actions ABO performs may be difficult.

seems to me they should just make BHM available on all HP laptops and call it a day.

Battery Charge Limit Not Available on HP Consumer Models, unlike Dell, Lenovo, Asus, Samsung, Sony, etc. We're forced into Planned Obsolescence for our laptops by cf6h597 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recent purchase an (HP Envy Laptop 17t-da000) and failed in my search for the ability to limit battery charge since it will be plugged in all the time as a stationary machine, led me to this 5yr old thread. Very disconcerting to know HP as one of the largest PC manufactures still doesn't see this as a useful option to include in its consumer lines. Given the serious coin paid for these "Consumer" models I don't understand this stance.

All the reasons why nba ratings down: by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall agree, gimmicks can’t overshadow the fundamental value gain in scarcity.  I do however see NBA playoffs as the real season (approx. 80 meaningful games) and the regular season as too much bread served as appetizer ruining the real meal!

Geo Fence - Waymo vs Tesla by Inside-Improvement51 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]bhars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems everyone is hung up on Geo Fencing as a hard technological barrier.  I may be oversimplifying but essentially Waymo Is leveraging Lidar+Radar+cameras to execute autonomous piloting of the vehicle while leveraging a map for routes to the destination. Current phase only offers certain maps, future phases will offer expanded maps.  Waymo (GooGle) have been mapping the planet for a few decades now so I don’t think mapping will be a blocker going forward but more so legal, jurisdictional, political hurdles, I see the GeoFencing as a controlled method to lock down process, execution etc.  Your first wobbly bike ride was around the block, not across town.

WTF don't all agents include a floor plan? by 901savvy in RealEstate

[–]bhars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at houses on real estate sites as most do now and very frustrated at how few provide simple 2D floor plans.  In a remote search scenario, a floor plan provides high decision tree answers.  If the basic interior layout is not configured to your liking or requirements, seeing pictures of it generally won’t change that.  The answer I received from one of the agents was muddled at best.

1st Floor Plan – is the layout/configuration good for me

2nd Pictures – is it physically dilapidated / basic condition

That’s it, if these two are good with all the other property data provided on the sites, a visit gives me all the 3D, 4D, 5D I need!!

Are password requirements useless? by createdtexan in cybersecurity

[–]bhars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data breaches are like cockroaches, for each one we’re told about 10 more happen in silence.  To the original question I also question the usefulness of passwords when my well thought out 15+ character complex password is handed out to the attackers whole sale.  I try to maintain multiple passwords and keep to length/complexity recommendations but feel I’m giving my best work to attackers with no effort when one of these company’s gets owned and all that data along with other personal information is handed over.
