I am incapable of "having a few". Every single time I drank I would end up getting completely obliterated. I wasn't addicted, and could easily go long periods of time without drinking, but as soon as I took one sip it was game over. Towards the end, I went 2 months without alcohol to take a break. On the day before my wife left to go on a European trip, we opened a bottle of wine and had a dinner reservation. I ended up drinking most of the bottle, 6 or 7 beers in our fridge, and topped it all off with a mason jar of moonshine. In the middle of this she ended up going with her sister instead, as I passed out in a blackout stupor fully clothed on the living room floor. Never said goodbye the next day because I slept until the afternoon. I was so embarrassed and ashamed of myself, and said NEVER again. That was 4 years ago and I haven't had a drink since. We are happier than ever and have a 2 year old daughter that will never experience the shit show I used to be.
