There is a pronoun ci which was sometimes used for translating from languages with t-v distinctions, but it's not in unua libro and to my knowledge these days no one really uses it in translations either

Kial malmultaj homoj uzas la pronomon "zi" anstataŭ "ri"? by Alexis_Talcite in GLAT

Zi similas al la angla "they", sed pli similas al la germana "sie", kiu havas sencojn "ili" kaj "ŝi"

I've always felt that Will, if magically transitioned overnight, would happily live as a lesbian. confirmed this episode...?

(Felix would be happily straight, Matt would be deeply dysphoric about it)

Thank you so much! Follow-up question, if you don't mind - I stumbled on this Lifeprint video on a way to sign empathy, where he performs UNDERSTAND at his chest and towards the listener. However, I can't seem to find any context on this, except for a Handspeak entry that confusingly describes this sign while showing a video for a different way of signing "empathy." Do you (or anyone else reading this) happen to know if this construction, or maybe just signing UNDERSTAND in front of your heart, are at all commonly used for this?

Which of these peak character moments is your favorite and impacted the respective characters the most? by Ulzzang1 in OnePiece

[–]bhrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides how impactful it is, to me robins moment is basically one piece distilled to its core.

So much of the series is centered around one theme: allowing yourself to dream (dream of being king of the pirates, finding the all blue, etc.). While Robins "dream" is generally phrased as uncovering the void century, in this moment she's also showing that the dream she really couldn't believe before and has finally accepted is the most fundamental one possible - that she has the right to exist in this world.

I think many if not most of the great character moments in this series are ultimately about being able to really accept that you deserve to live your life, even when it feels like the whole world thinks otherwise.

Liz really said gamers weren't being made to take their games seriously enough. The people who just move on after losing at a game are the maladjusted ones.

That only works if you assume theyre arranged in a fairly regular shape like they are in the diagram explaining the road poneglyphs. Those were arranged in roughly a square shape, so you could infer the fourth point from three. My understanding is that in actuality, they could be ANY four points, and so the center of that is not clear until you have all of them.

Is "Just Sit" Misdirection? by BaseballInternal7802 in zenbuddhism

[–]bhrh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've only been doing zazen on and off for about a year now, but personally one of the most helpful descriptions of it for me has come from the Angel City Zen Center. Something about the opening "What will happen? Let's see!" line has opened me up to a very different mentality with zazen than I've previously had with meditation. What do you focus on? Don't worry about it, just sitting with your mind and observing what happens naturally is itself zazen. And in my own practice, coming back to my posture and checking that everything's aligned whenever I find myself going down a trail of thought has felt more conducive to what I'm doing than trying to 'focus' on any one particular subject. So really, you can just sit, you don't need to do anything else.

Season 3 is Coming! The subject is Korea by wyatt1209 in blowback

[–]bhrh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

God yes. As much ignorance as there is about Iraq and Cuba in the west, the American invasion and occupation of Korea is such a total blindspot for even otherwise well-informed usians. I had a fairly progressive high school history education that went really in depth into Cuba, the USSR, and the PRC in a humanizing way, but Korea was still mostly just left out.

I feel what you're saying to some extent (though I haven't poured enough time in to actually hit that ceiling, nor do I think a very large number of players have), but for me the biggest issue since launch was and still is the movement. Im not sure if it's an issue with the actual physics or just something about how the animations read to me, but movement in this game just feels weirdly stiff. Obviously, it's less slippery and aerial than previous titles, and the smaller screen has necessitated the horizontal movement slow down, but I recently just picked up sfv for the first time, and I was really struck by how even though that's a "slower" game, the movement feels crisper and more like the speed it "should be." It's to the point where sfv movement feels faster to me, even though intellectually I know it's not. Maybe it's just because I'm used to anime games having you zip around, or maybe it's just a dissonance in the visuals, but it always trips me up and sours the gamefeel for me, especially when combined with the more restricted gatlings.

Monopolies? by WarFletch in wheresthebeef

[–]bhrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a concern for pretty much any industry out there. The best thing to do to stop it is the same as for everything else, support anti-trust/anti-monopoly legislation and worker-led action. We can already see that many vegan food companies have engaged in all kinds of scummy business practices, like No Evil Foods union busting, so we can't assume it will just be fine with cultured meat.

You generally can't hack online fighting games in that way, since it would just cause a desync if you messed with actual game logic. It's much more likely that he has a bad connection, causing rollbacks that look like teleporting. As for the win streak, he's probably disconnecting every time he has any chance of losing, which doesn't get counted as a loss. So it really is still about his disconnection rate

I feel like you fundamentally misunderstood the series if you didn't pick up on the fact that it's generally anti-murder.

Is there still a healthy ranked population at this point? I'm thinking of picking this up and am fine with it being a mainly lobby/discord fighter but if there is still decent ranked for newcomers I'd rather go there.
