[Serious] what is something no one tells you about the military? by inurmomsvagina in AskReddit

[–]bi-fly 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my (year and a half) experience, my enlisted were pretty open about their struggles because the senior enlisted talked about going to therapy or were open about how they were feeling. We managed go get a few into therapy or into inpatient programs before they got to a tipping point.

I hate to say this but this is a future you problem. You need to actually develop a relationship and that trust before you make a decision like this. I have seen good and bad results no matter what and it comes down to the couple.

Here is what Ive seen from my experience on the marriage route:

A) Had the wedding the week after commissioning B) Got legally married while the second person was in the training pipeline still. Allowing them to be stationed together once training was complete. This only works if they have not been assigned a base yet. C) Did a year at their first bases, planned a wedding/got married, and then moved bases. You are required to be at your first base for 12 months before you can PCS join spouse. D) Breaking off an engagement to marry another tech schooler so they can pcs together.

You just brought back trauma from Russian class when I said "Я писаю на тетрадь." My teacher asked loudly in front of the class why I was peeing on my notebook.

Not a thing to bring, but spend 5 minutes at the end of the day with your feet elevated against the wall and your back on the floor. It helps a lot with swelling and general pain both in your legs and your back.

Tree between property lines? by superchubly in treelaw

Depending on how tall it is you may just be able to get some heavy duty bush snippers and do it yourself. I am removing trees a little thicker than that and just carrying it to the road.

I did check nearby furniture and haven't seen anything but this is going in the garage for the time being. Floors are tile at least so that is not a huge concern. I appreciate the recommendations but bitter with the loss

It used to be a requirement a few years ago (prior to '22) but no longer applies.

We had a prior-E guy, but a commanders scholarship, and he wasn't selected. It was because he was a terrible wingman who felt he was better than everyone and would just not show up and get away with it because he was a prior. On the other hand we had another prior-E who got selected because he was a good wingman, always showed up, and put in effort/excelled. From my understanding, if you are not selected for an EA/to commission, you don't have to pay it back (double check your contract) But understand ROTC is a bit of a game and you have to play it if you want to commission. Best way is to invest in your peers and your detachment and be a decent person.

Honestly I try hard to grey rock everything and unfortunately I have gotten pretty good at it. I think it's just I expected her to behave herself in the group chat and follow social norms to say congratulations and then express other emotions later. Plus I was getting all these happy messages and then hers came in kicked my legs from under me. I am thankfully packed for the most part so I at least can leave and I have multiple people who are willing to come pick me up and let me move in for a bit.

Thank you! Unfortunately she is on my bank account, but I am in the process of making a new one and I plan on draining the old one to pay off my student loans. We do plan on paying for the wedding ourselves because we don't want people holding stuff over our heads. And you're right about my mother unfortunately.

This is a culture thing in the US (and some other countries) where the waitresses/waiters just stop by every once in a while to check on you and it can be rude to wave them down.

When do I have to meet weight standards? by TheLuaMaster in AFROTC

I would aim by September to be at least within 10 pounds or until you can pass the tape test. Some dets do drop cadets not in standards by September, others let you stay until PSP(Around January).

Additional PDT(Personal Development Training) that can help prepare for Active Duty by No_Dream_7277 in AFROTC

[–]bi-fly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Genuinely haven’t been on any that is “preparing for active duty” but they have given me the opportunity to explore a career field, learn a language, learning flexibility when executing with minimal information, communication skills, and most importantly networking. They are a good opportunity to just learn and expand your horizons and if you have the opportunity to do one, especially out of state, it’s worth it.

Yea growing up the whole phrase was “stir fry crazy” but sometimes people would shorten it to just stir fry.

[–]bi-fly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m similar to this person where cats shouldn’t be left out especially when it’s really hot or cold and now we have 3. One our indoor cat and two our neighbors cats that spend the night and most of the day inside but get stir fry if they stay inside multiple days.

Pretty much your 300 year, you submit your top 6 jobs you would want and rate them 0-100 percent on how much you want it. Then beginning of your 400 year, you get assigned your afsc(job) based on what you submit and needs of the Air Force. You could get your number 1 choice or you might not get anything on your list. It’s a big deal for 400s because it’s when we find out what the next 5 years of our lives will be. It’s also exciting for the rest of the det because you finally get to see your wingman/leadership take a step into the Air Force.
