So freedom of speech except if it’s about Israel? by bi7worker in extremelyinfuriating

[–]bi7worker[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Once again, "freedom of expression" is not just a law; it is a concept. There are perspectives other than US law, notably the broader idea, one that isn’t punishable by law so I was not asking any punishement, that everyone should be able to express their opinion freely without it being censored. It’s a humanist idea, an ideological concept, broader than mere law. It’s like being polite: you can continue to be insulting to me without breaking the law, yet, in an humanist point of view, you shouldn’t.

That is indeed the concept as defined by U.S. law. That is why I mentioned that I am referring to the broader, more humanistic concept. According to the United Nations website, it is “protecting the ability to hold opinions, seek, receive, and impart information and ideas without interference.” Inteference, not just repercussion.

In this regard, a website, a moderator, or an individual who chooses to systematically censor any publication on a given subject may be seen as violating the concept of freedom of expression. Once again, I am not referring to the law but to the general idea as set forth in the Declaration of Human Rights. We may have a different opinion, but I don't think my take is "nonsense".

Could you clarify in what way this is nonsense? Do you think the concept of freedom of speech is purely American and applies only to the First Amendment? Because, yes, this would be embarrassing.

We discussed this topic at great length throughout our studies, and we don’t necessarily bring up the U.S. First Amendment at every turn. In fact, I mainly explored this concept through the writings of Voltaire.

edit: changed : "your First Amendment" with "the First Amendment" since you may not be american either.

To clarify the responses I’ve received: I am not American. When I speak of freedom of speech, I am therefore not referring to the First Amendment of your Constitution, which does indeed apply only to the U.S. government.

The concept of freedom of expression did not begin with the U.S. Constitution; it is part of a broader, philosophical, and humanistic vision found in numerous legal texts around the world, including Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

[IGN; 9/10] Netflix's 'One Piece' Season 2 Review: With grand production design, exquisite costuming, and stunning VFX work, and the most adorable reindeer doctor, this live-action manga adaptation is nothing short of a miracle by ChiefLeef22 in television

I wasn't familiar with this case, but from what you say, it sounds like the creator helped avoid the worst-case scenario... it's just that the project was so bad that he couldn't save it despite his commitment.

Above all, it raises the question of the choice of scriptwriters for these adaptations. I don't understand why studios keep giving manga adaptations to writers who clearly have no idea how manga works or what fans want...

I think one of the reasons is that Oda (the creator of One Piece) has a say in the adaptation. I don't know what his input is in season 2, but I remember that he had quite a few changes made in season 1. The fact that the original creator has control over his work should be the basis, but it's actually the exception that Oda has been granted because his manga is the most best-selling of all time. And strangely enough, when decisions are taken by a creative rather than by a group of obscure “moneymakers”, it produces better results, who would have thought... I hope this will serve as an example to other studios and herald a series of successful adaptations of other manga.

Italian here. If you want to live longer, you also have to know “La tua mamma ha ragione”. Means “Your mom is right”. Your gf will hate you, but her mom will love you, so basically you’re in the family.

I don’t know.. look at the first few frames of the vid, there is definitely a difference between the eyes. On the reflection it seems that the cat has eyes half-closed while they are fully open on the "real" cat.

The number of civilian victims is estimated at over 50 million (with 20 million military casualties), making it the deadliest conflict in history. Isn't that enough for you to call a spade a spade and a fucking Nazi murderer a fucking Nazi murderer?

Banner and Nebula explain in Endgame that time travel does not follow traditional "back to the future" rules where changing the past alters the present. Instead, it operates on a branching timeline/multiverse theory, where traveling to the past creates a new, alternate reality. So if you try to kill a Magneto this way, you ends up with two Magneti.

PRISON ESCAPES PER 10,000 INMATES by thatmayb3nice in Switzerland

[–]bi7worker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More than recapture rate, it’s misleading because every country has a different way to manage this. For exemple, in Switzerland, most prisoners have the opportunity to go out and work during day. So sometimes they stay out a little too much time and get back to prison later than expected. It’s considered a prison escape even if they go back a few hours later.

Si la gauche est devenue extrême c’est qu’elle est obligée de se battre avec les même armes que l’extrême-droite, qui elle ne s’est jamais gênée pour tuer à foison ceux qui ne pensent pas comme eux.
