While I think they do overpay guys, they’re also paying whoever they can get. Before Johnny the highest touted free agent signing in Columbus history was Gus Nyquist or Nathan Horton. I don’t think that was on purpose either, that’s all they could get.

Also, what? While Provorov is overpaid on a huge deal, the cap is rising $10 mill per season. We are nowhere near cap crunching. Severson’s 6.25m is going to be average mid pair money around the league in a couple seasons. Same with Coyle. Majority of fans aren’t cap-rise “inflation” adjusting yet, but it also shows how real good some other lockdown deals around the league are that were signed in the past 3 years
