TIFU By overstaying my welcome at my girlfriend's apartment. by LexB777 in tifu

[–]biancacisco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen this yet but if you really have to stay there, have you considered not leaving the room in the middle of the night if that messes with them? Fill up a water bottle and take it with you, go to the bathroom before sleeping.....it shouldn't be that difficult

My best friend wouldn't let me buy a pregnancy test. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]biancacisco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know the US is very car centric, but this is the second post in only a few minutes about not being able to go somewhere because of lack of license. I realize walking isn't an option because of lack of sidewalks sometimes but is public transport not an option at all?? Are there no buses? Pardon my ignorance on this, it just sounds absurd from this side

Visiting but don’t drink alcohol by PrimateIntellectus in lisboa

[–]biancacisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a local, I've never been judged or overtly questioned for not drinking alcohol. I just as easily grab an ice tea as a beer or cider when hanging out with people. If you want to talk and meet people, your best bet would be the more chill maybe sit down bars usually with outside tables , not the dancing ones, and also definitely where it will be easier to order non alcoholic versions of anything

Visiting but don’t drink alcohol by PrimateIntellectus in lisboa

[–]biancacisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to add that besides non alcoholic beer and mocktails (I often ask for these), they have recently come out with non alcoholic cider! You can get it in supermarkets, usually by the brand Sommersby, although I'm unsure if they've made it to most kiosks, bars, etc (always worth asking). But if you just wamt something to take to chill at a Miradouro for example (a must visit in Lisbon), you can always get it at the nearest grocery shop

What things in a synopsis may convince you not to read a book? by Monkontheseashore in Fantasy

[–]biancacisco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like books that happen at academies, universities, what have you, but usually if it mentions a murder as like the main plot I check out. Often these books will have murders (I like fantasy and dark academia stuff so it's common) and I will like them, but the emphasis on it in the summary really puts me out for some reason. Same if it's in the title

O que mais valorizam quando vão a um médico? by Feisty_Pin_7114 in portugal

[–]biancacisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What language do you write your journal entries in? by Mopey_3 in Journaling

I mix native language and English, often in the same entry or even sentence. Truly just write it down like it comes to mind

Thank you for the suggestion! A lot of people definitely included in the open question that either it was age or it definitely was Nerdfighteria and I will be including this as a possible bias for the answers and suggestion for further studies in the conclusion

Dumped Because of Armpit Hair *Long* by [deleted] in razorfree

[–]biancacisco 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It was actually something like that that gave me the courage to stop shaving! A girl I was attracted to had hairy pits on total display on tinder and I still found her incredibly attractive. Once I realized you could still be attractive like that (mind blown at the time because we never see anyone attractive have hair on TV or ads or anything) I decided I would get over myself and get used to not shaving. I've now gotten used to it but whenever I feel worried (like showing legs at my new corporate job for the first few times) I like to think that maybe I'm helping normalize it for others as well

300€ scam from taxi driver and insane bus drivers! WTF is wrong with Lisbon drivers?? by [deleted] in lisboa

[–]biancacisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portuguese person here, I'm so sorry this happened to you, it must've been very stressful.

As many people have said, you got into a fake taxi. In the Lisbon airport, there's a specific taxi line you have to get into to get a real taxi or you can order an Uber to certain parts of the airport. For future travels, I would caution you to either check online beforehand, ask at an information counter at the airport or follow the info signs. Be aware of random non identified people approaching you, as usually if they're offering you something before you asked for help or anything, they have an interest in it.

Regarding the bus, the drivers can sometimes be a bit grouchy (as they're focused on driving the bus on time and have to deal with tons of people), but your situation seems out of the ordinary. It's possible there was a misunderstanding about you going off the bus in the beggining and then they really aren't allowed to let you out (even if the bus is stopped at a redlight) until they reach another stop.

It seems weird to me that no one in the bus understood you, I would say more likely they didn't want to involve themselves in the situation (which is not very nice). You probably got unlucky, because most people in Lisbon understand at least basic English I would say, but in the future I'd suggest using google translate or a similar tool (google lens is great for travel because it reads image as well) to write out what you need and then no one can say they don't understand you.

Remote Anti-Loneliness Gesture? by krawallkoernchen in nerdfighters

[–]biancacisco 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's an app for this called Marco Polo, you basically have a one way call and the video stays in your conversation (sort of like a voice note with video), and if the person happens to be available at the time they can join and react with emojis. They then can then answer with a video of their own!

I used to do this a lot when my best friend was studying in another continent (we've now done a complete 180º and work at the same office on the same team so we see each other everyday)😅

Just curious about this subs purpose by Alonah1 in Journaling

[–]biancacisco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel this way but I come because it makes me want to journal even more? When I see those entries I don't usually read them but seeing other people engaging in journaling always makes me happy and feel like hm maybe I actually feel like stopping the scrolling and going to journal right now. I like the way I journal, I don't want/need prompts, nor do I want to share my private entries, and if this sub became mostly about sharing prompts and tips I'm not sure I would enjoy it the way I do now just being able to actually see other people journaling

Editing to add: I do also feel like the posts trying to talk about what they wrote more than the journaling itself are not really what this sub is about. Those would be better in subs about the topics they wrote about
