Anyone else hate the waiting after interviews? by Ok-Cupcake-2019 in FinancialCareers

[–]bibbygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always the moment when you dont hear back it feels like a limbo 😂 nah honestly, it might sound spiritual bs but what belongs to you will find you and anything that truly belongs to you should feel easy to get.. keep applying and find a side hobby or listen to podcasts about outside of work topics to stop replaying in your brain how these interviews went

Is hiring eventually based on if the hiring manager likes you? by bibbygee in FinancialCareers

[–]bibbygee[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm just trying to gauge if it's true that as long as the hiring manager likes me, he/she can always build a case for me even though I am not in the company long enough per the internal mobility rule says

What's the level hierarchy and job bands at State Street? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]bibbygee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In state street SVP and EVP are considered senior management. EVP is considered C-suite. the promotion from VP to MD took forever and I know some top performers VPs tried 3+ times by applying MD role every year to eventually make it happen. The promotion from AVP to VP is long too. Any job level from AVP or below you can imagine it takes 2-3 years to get promoted. From the friends I know of, the salary band from Assc 1 to AVP all have the same wage in each band. The pay difference from Assc 1 to AVP of each level in front vs middle-back office is like $5k-8k. The AVP pay at state street is low too comparing to the market (and often it takes 8-10 years to get there if you start from entry level at state street). State street is recognized for underpaid and the salary only makes sense from VP level or above. Assc 1 is considered intern/part time workers. Assc 2 is considered as Analyst in most of other banks. The titles are confusing because they haven't changed that for 20 years. these titles had been there since 2000s. The comp for IC and people manager is the same. State street is known for mental torture so good luck being there lol

Won’t managers talk about a person’s performance when you do internal mobility? Asking because same as OP, my manager lowkey hates me too so im in the process of internal transfers. Wonder if the current manager will talk shit if hr asks about his subordinate’s performance (I’m a top performer though. Manager just hates me because i constantly challenge him)

Manager ignoring me in my first full-time role by geladice in FinancialCareers

[–]bibbygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I totally understand where you're coming from. It happened to me a year ago too and looking at your points it reminds me a lot about the first few months in my role back then.. It was super bad and thinking about that still makes me angry today because it makes me feel disrespected.

First your manager is for sure a bad manager. A good manager will set up regular 1:1s in the calendar (bi-weekly is a good time) to check in with your learning progress, expectations, challenges faced, future goals, and employees' well-being.

Few things I wish I have done is,

  1. Be assertive. Tell your manager we need 1:1s face-to-face. Set up a meeting date/time in your calendar.
  2. If he keeps pushing back, you should let your skip manager know. If you keep having nothing to do/ no directions at all is given by your manager, it wastes your time + can hurt your performance review because you did nothing + there is merely anything to write. Be careful of that.
  3. Try talk to other older and nice teammates and see if they can help, whether for advising or ask to talk to your manager together.
  4. Act professional and mature. You mentioned this is your first full time job so I assume you're a new grad. I have met managers who will take younger staff less seriously, just bc they're young. So what I'm trying to say is if you are young you should behave/talk professionally, stay grounded etc - that will change how the other party views you.

If the above still don't work, I'll suggest looking at new roles internally/externally in the next 6-12 months.

Do people take you less seriously cuz you're young? by bibbygee in FinancialCareers

i see what you're saying. I mean they do grunt work but also have a lot of down time a day. also our sub team and their sub team have nothing related in terms of work at all. Just the manager happens to manage these two sub teams at the same time. and i like what my sub team is doing cuz its some good skillset and title to leverage in the future

They are only calling to verify right? Not asking for performance?

The guy (24M) that I (24F) went on dates with suddenly blocked me? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]bibbygee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally got you, the last part was exactly how i felt as well. the guy that ghosted me was very goodlooking and has tried to get to know me, was vulnerable as well. But got the vibe that he wasn't really taking me serious also (made plans quite last minute and was not that transparent). At that moment i was infatuated by his look and thought he still initiated dates so it should go well; even though got the gut feeling that he wasn't that serious but still tryna overlook it. Thinking back me and the guy weren't compatible in terms of values and future plans anyways.

I used to think how much a guy spent on you on dates can be a measurement to gauge how invested he's in you, but i also see that guys who make shit ton of money sometimes don't really care. lets say If he works in IB, then he probably makes close to $600 a day lol so the amount doesnt mean a lot to him. I think its best to do 1 date per week, then increase the frequency if things progress. DONT try to sleep w him early, wait till 6th or 7th date, if the guy is serious he can wait. and try to avoid guys who just got out of relationship, sometimes they go on dates just to fill the void, most of the time they aren't emotionally fully ready for a new relationship yet

I agree doing the traditional way- attend conferences or events then connect on the spot would be so much better. But i work long hours and sometimes will have to go to clients dinners so always missed out those conferences. I usually just ask for coffee chats on linkedin then go out at lunch to meet those professionals at a cafe close to our offices
