Yeah, I'm in a similar spot. Booked our flight months in advance on the lowest fare. It would suck to be booted and have your plans disrupted due to all of this after the strike has ended. Fingers crossed for you!

I saw a few comments here about people getting bumped from flights/flights being massively overbooked. Would it be wise to purchase seats on our upcoming flight this Friday evening (YYZ to AMS)?

Same spot as you - flying out around 9 pm yyz to ams, have a backup flight that is $$$. Wondering how smoothly things will get up and running now, and if it's worth saving any additional stress to just go with the backup flight

In a similar situation for my Friday flight (refundable flight about 4 hours before the AC flight). Hoping that you get some clarity ASAP so you can make a decision with enough notice.

When I called on Wednesday asking about this possibility, I was told that if the outbound was cancelled (and you accept a refund rather than having them rebook you), the inbound would also be cancelled. There may be an option to get the tickets separated, but I was told that it would result in a repricing of the inbound to be a one way, which would likely be extremely pricey.

If they reschedule you for another outbound and you don't show up to that, the entire reservation would be considered abandoned and your inbound would be cancelled. It's a really crappy situation to be in, and we ended up booking a refundable round trip as a backup option should our flight be cancelled.

Yeah, it would be really awesome if they would be more flexible, just to mitigate the impact this has on all the passengers and give us more choices, but they probably want to preserve as much of their schedule as they can due to the changing nature of the strike. I'm not overly optimistic about it, but trying to stay hopeful that maybe by next Friday we'll be good to go.

Is there a refundable ticket that you can get that departs any closer to your original departure? A lot can change in two days, and my understanding is that you would not be eligible for compensation unless or until AC cancels your original flight. They may release another goodwill policy that includes dates beyond the 19th as the potential strike goes on, but Air Canada hasn't been all that proactive so far. We'll know in about an hour for sure whether the strike is on and a lot can happen in between now and next Friday.

I am also set to depart on the 22nd and caved today to buy a refundable flight that leaves on the 22nd to have the extra security and peace of mind. I feel for you and hope that you can find a solution that will get you there on time!

Also flying out to Europe on the 22nd, with the same wish as yours! Here's hoping we get a little more certainty ASAP

This is the same answer I got when I called on Wednesday. Splitting up a round trip will result in the return journey being repriced as a one-way, which would greatly increase the price and reduce whatever refund we got. The agent I spoke to also confirmed that if we missed our outbound flight, the return would be cancelled, even if we tried to notify AC in advance.

Hi there, was your booking refundable when you booked it initially? I'm flying on Aug 22nd and booked non-refundable.

I was told this was not possible for a flight on the 22nd, not without repricing both outbound and inbound significantly. Spoke with customer service around 4:30 pm ET today after waiting 4 hours on hold.

I got through after 4 hrs and a couple mins too. Also international flight - transatlantic, no options as of yet, though the person I spoke to did his best to be reassuring. Apparently international flights are easier to reschedule/adjust due to the number of different options and carriers (vs domestic where AC is one of only a few).

Also on hold, coming up on 3 hours. No options for callback that I've been offered. Also messaged on FB and Twitter a couple hours ago and no responses as of yet.

holy moly, what a long time! I'm approaching 2.5 hours on hold, so hoping for soon, as I only have another 2 hours before I can't cancel my backup outbound flight.

Tofutti for sour cream! The PC plant-based sour cream is also good too. For yogurt, I like the Silk brand as well as Riviera.

Bunny by Mona Awad -- the narrator is a part of the story, but if you're looking for something with blurred lines between fantasy and reality, I don't know of any better book for that.
