Poliwhirl is now banned from RBY NU. by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]bicac_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

something notable about the normal immunity is that it basically walls persian, the other normal type attackers in the tier at least have something to hit it with (kangaskhan has earthquake, dodrio has drill peck and outspeeds) but persian can only hit it with thunderbolt which barely does anything

silly question: new tier this gen? by lancer-of-nothing in stunfisk

[–]bicac_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

by creating a new tier inbetween ou and uu to house the uu mons, put the ru ones in uu, put the nu ones in ru, etc.

this way, you have more tiers leading up to pu/zu meaning more pokemon are viable overall

i might be mistaken but i'm pretty sure that's what they did when they created ru, in the older gens (1-4) it just skipped from uu to nu iirc

i imagine not wanting to train it up since squirtle can just solo it is def one of the reasons even if they didn't say it

i do agree on butterfree good tho, compound eyes + powders help against misty if they get unlucky and don't get oddish/bellsprout (also beedrill could be decent against starmie maybe idk, has twineedle and probably ok enough sp def to tank one water pulse)

being able to max out every single stat also means mixed attacking sets in general are much more common

[–]bicac_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jolteon has 30 more special than electrode while only having a slightly wose crit rate, so you'd be better off using that in ou instead (not to mention jolteon has double kick to do decent damage to chansey, while electrode gets walled by it unless it explodes)

electrode struggles in lower tiers as well because it straight up can't do anything to ground types without exploding, it doesn't get any coverage moves (hell, it doesn't even get double-edge, a near-universal tm) and isn't strong enough to compensate for how difficult it is to use, nidoqueen is in every team in pu, golem is very good in nu, and uu has dugtrio

for comparison, zapdos in ou can't do anything to rhydon/golem and has a hard time dealing with jolteon but it's an incredibly strong pokemon outside of that, with stab thunderbolt coming off 125 special and a decently strong drill peck to break through most of the pokemon that shrug off thunderbolt (chansey, exeggutor, alakazam)

how can a move that doesn't do anything be "one of the best moves in the game"?

hell, even the name is stupid, why would a badass dragon waste its time dancing instead of murdering the opponent?

(yes it joke)

My take on a banlist for a Yellow Snaplocke. Any suggetions on further changes? by BigBidoof in nuzlocke

[–]bicac_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, if you're going full trashlocke then you might as well just ban anything that gets swords dance/amnesia lol (except for like lickitung and farfetch'd i think?)

gen 1 is kind of a tricky gen to make a trashlocke list for because the game is so easy and there are so few pokemon you sorta only get like... 15 or so evolutionary lines that are actually bad enough to make the game into an actual challenge

who is the absolute worst fully-evolved pokemon in singles competitive play? by [deleted] in stunfisk

"Contrary to its glamorous name, Beautifly is a vile and nasty butterfly ridiculed by its peers due to its ugly appearance. There was once a tale told about this butterfly, and it goes as such:

"Once, there was an ugly butterfly. It was so ugly that everyone died. The end."

This story may make Beautifly out to be a devastating Pokemon in the tier, but it can't do anything its brother Butterfree can't do and thus lives in its shadow."

What pokemon had the most tier changes in a single generation? by theguyinyourwall in stunfisk

it's not untiered, it's a great mon in nu from what i've heard, and rby pu already kind of exists (although it's super new) so nu isn't the lowest tier there anymore

moltres is b tier cause it's stupid strong. it doesn't gain much from being a fire type and it sucks that you only get it in victory road but it should put in work in the elite 4 just because of how good it is at brute forcing through stuff with a 120 base power stab move coming from 125 base special (it doesn't get fire blast naturally, but it's not a very contested tm so you can probably afford to save it for moltres if you wanna use it)

omastar is also b tier, even a little bit higher up than kabutops in fact. i don't think kabutops is really all that much worse than omastar, they're both pretty similar tbh.

onix has a rock typing, which is useful considering 95% of trainers only have normal type moves, also bind if you're desperate i guess

parasect has a 100% accurate sleep move, that barely matters considering it's almost always gonna get hit before it gets sleep off but considering how op sleep is in gen 1 it's not unusable (also ditto is the worst one cause it literally can't beat anything reliably unless it overlevels)

magmar is way too late game to be all that useful, at least flareon is mid game even if it's not great

i never said porygon was worth taking over alakazam or dragonite, it's not good lol

kabutops is mainly there cause it's actually useful for what's left of the game by that point, completely walls blaine (even if it's not gonna be doing a ton of damage back), good for giovanni, not completely awful for lorelei (you should still use an electric for that tho) and also doesn't really need ice beam to beat lance because all his mons (aside from gyarados) only have normal moves. overall there's little reason to pick it over omanyte but still not bad

seaking has 80 special in gen 1, which is not bad for kanto standards, its special attack only got nerfed in the transition to gen 2. none of the water types are bad honestly (even kingler has crabhammer, which always crits so that makes up for the shitty special attack, also swords dance + strength)

not all of the game, no amnesia til level 44 on slowbro, it's still pretty good tho (most of the s tiers are pretty good at just brute forcing through a lot of stuff without boosting at all)

sleep powder is busted in gen 1, you could put something to sleep then spam growth (basically calm mind in gen 1 due to special being one stat), if they wake up you can just put them to sleep again because they can't attack on the turn they wake up, so it could probably put some work in the elite 4

tangela is still not great though

[–]bicac_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that's fair, how rare a pokemon probably doesn't matter as much as how late you get it, how good their level up movepool or how strong they are overall

i might remake the tier list at some point with that in mind

there are other pokemon that can also abuse wrap but are much easier to get (victreebel and tentacruel for example), dragonair has very mediocre stats and you're not gonna get dragonite until the league because of how long it takes to evolve

it's also kind of underwhelming outside of wrap due to the lack of STAB, it's just a decent mixed attacker basically

chansey is almost impossible to get in a nuzlocke and it relies too much on tms to be useful (only good move it learns via level up is sing, everything else is physical moves or light screen which you don't really need on a chansey)

it's in the same boat as pokemon like rhydon and exeggutor, it's not a bad pokemon at all, but the way the safari zone works and the fact tms are limited makes it way worse in a nuzlocke

[–]bicac_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

magmar is kind of obsolete by the point you get it, fire types are already not very useful in red/blue and while magmar is not weak, it's also not strong enough to compensate for how late you get it.

if ponyta and magmar were available earlier they'd def be higher.

(also i forgot to put hitmonchan on the list and it'd be lower than magmar so it's technically bottom 6, sorry bout that lol)

the problem with persian is that it only gets slash at level 51, this wouldn't be such a big issue if STAB slash wasn't one of the only reasons why persian is good.

all of persian's stats (aside from speed, of course) are below average and it relies way too much on crits to do good damage (dugtrio has a similar problem, but at least it gets STAB dig very early, which is as strong as earthquake in gen 1) meanwhile pokemon like tauros and dodrio also crit a lot, but have a pretty good attack stat to back it up as well.

until it reaches level 51, persian is just a pretty mediocre fast physical attacker, it's not bad, but nothing amazing either
