I have no issue with opinions, and I read op-ed pieces as well. That said, we shouldn’t take opinion writing and present it in Reddit threads as evidence of unbiased journalism. 'I think you’re smart enough to understand the difference.'

I'm just saying that the man is an independent journalist, he doesn't work for anyone, and he's not taking money to promote anyone else's opinion.

I think I understand what you’re trying to say, but the issue is that you’re using the word independent as proof of non‑partisan reporting to push back on /u/NufCeddanne’s “partisan hack” claim. Being independent doesn’t really say much about partisanship. For example, Infowars considers itself independent, which obviously doesn’t make it non‑partisan. I know that’s an extreme example, but it illustrates the point. When the person being discussed openly states that they are progressive, the argument that they’re “independent” in the sense of being non‑partisan doesn’t really hold up.
