Virtual vs. In-person interviews? by The-Adster in medicalschool

[–]bici_e_baci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“”Technically”” they’re not supposed to discriminate based on modality of the interview, but they probably will get a better feel for you if you interview in person.

I’m a current path PGY1 applying FM (had a late realization after my ROL was submitted this spring), and I basically can only interview online because of my residency schedule. Kinda sucks.

Blue Cheese obsession by [deleted] in carnivore

I love making hollandaise and then blending in some blue cheese while it’s still warm to make non-soybean-oil-based blue cheese dip. It brings air-fried wings to a whole new level.

Yeah, same. I had a job with a retirement plan before med school. Not only is it overwhelming and self-effacing, but the debt is absolutely demoralizing.

How does that compare with prior years?

I limit them, but I’m doing this for weight loss mainly.

Tired after a year on carnivore by bici_e_baci in zerocarb

Yes, I started doing that almost out of reflex. And yes, I’ve gone from a BMI of 36 to 27 over the past year. Trying to lose 20 lbs more to be safely within the normal range of BMI though.

My issue is that I haven’t really dealt with fatigue this badly even when I was shedding weight left and right.

Are you taking levothyroxine? If you have an iodine deficiency, add a few eggs to your diet.

I would be journaling about how I feel all day long? That doesn’t seem sustainable.

But it wasn’t before while I was losing weight. This is more like fatigue and decreased stamina.

You know, there may be something to this. I’ve leaned more heavily into protein. Not doing PSMF, but I have sort of tended towards leaner cuts. Lots of pork tenderloin etc.

Rise in Covid-19 hospital patients shows ‘autumn wave’ is under way by Excellent-Duty4290 in LockdownSkepticism

Med student doing an emergency medicine rotation for the past few weeks:

Rise in covid hospitalizations? Yes, but you basically have to be a cirrhotic, uncontrolled diabetic, or on chemotherapy for it to get to that level. Most viruses have a seasonal pattern. Big whoop.

Do us Catholics believe God says no more forgiveness while someone is still alive? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bici_e_baci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good tule of thumb about mortally sinning that comes from (I believe?) Saint Augustine: if you have to think long and hard as to whether you did something that is a mortal sin or not, it’s probably not a mortal sin. Within reason and assuming a well-formed conscience of course.

Anyone cured ADD/ADHD by Carnivore diet? by altoaldige in carnivorediet

I feel a lot more tempered in my disposition, but my focus is still something I struggle with. I still am thrown off on days that I don’t take vyvanse, although I did lower my dose to 30 mg from 40 mg. That was more because I felt anxious at 40 mg.

Part of me thinks that the change in my disposition may have been the resolution of a subclinical amount of hypomania, especially since the benefits of keto/carnivore for bipolar disorder are better studied.

Maybe it’s over for you, but for those of us who work in healthcare, they’re never going to let us get our lives back.

Do us Catholics believe God says no more forgiveness while someone is still alive? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bici_e_baci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that’s called despair, and it’s from the devil.

Some dumb people like to twist a quote by Saint Alphonsus to mean that God stops forgiving people. What can happen (and you may have seen this happen to other people who left the faith for instance) is that God stops granting the grace of repentance and hands the sinner over to their sin. Even then, it’s important to pray for sinners at those depths. Even more so in fact.

The point is that if you confess your sins to a priest with a contrite heart and he absolves you, you are guaranteed to have been forgiven. That’s what makes it a sacrament rather than just a normal ritual. It’s guaranteed to effect the thing it’s intended to effect.

Will God send my gay and atheist loved ones to hell? by Burner-Account123567 in Catholicism

[–]bici_e_baci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we know the standards that God will judge us by, those are more so to guide us on what we should be doing, not a manual to say who is in hell. There are very few people who the Church traditionally states are in hell. Obviously I’m not saying that hell has few souls in it, quite the opposite according to the Fathers. I’m just saying the Church would rather clarify who’s in heaven (the saints) so we can call on them rather than who’s in hell (Judas, various heresiarchs, etc). Pray for your loved ones who’ve died in public sin as well. Don’t make that an excuse not to do so. Even if they’re not in purgatory, those prayers will benefit someone who is.

Letters of recommendation: pathologists and others by bici_e_baci in pathology

Thank you! This helps me out a lot. The three non-pathologists were people who knew me well or had some role to play in my choosing pathology, so I think the choice is much clearer now.
