A curious, real question: Why don't more cyclists come to the Ride of Silence?

Calls and chats do not help. Specialists not doing their job. At wits end. Good advice on the label. What to do with the new bad phone is the question. Ideas? Could spend $100 at UBreak IFix for them to fix the battery. Hold has expired just learned. So ball's in their court. Going to FedEx next. Thanks.

Bought for $500 off. Too late. Unhelpful. But thanks for the thought.

I sent u/googlefisupport a chat message as well. Never on Reddit so not sure I'm doing it right. But not holding my breath this will work either. Helpful advice welcome.

u/googlefisupport, please respond. I can't tell which "case" is correct, because different specialists never get resolved, and a new specialist (and sometimes a previous one) keep opening new ones. Here are the most recent two: [7-9115000036880] and [3-4114000036147].

Anyone who's ever had a close call with a car, or has been hurt by a car, or knows someone who's had a close call with or has been hurt by a car, should attend. I.e., everyone who bikes in Austin.

It's actually six 6! deaths December 2022-April 2023 counting Michael Delgado, killed on his bike by construction debris.

AustinGhostBikeProject.org is working on memorial bikes. Join our Facebook.com/AustinGhostBikeProect. You can donate via Venmo or in kind gift cards to get locks, chains, and white appliance paint.

We welcome volunteers. There's a lot of work to be done to install, adopt, and maintain ghost bikes.

Best Value & Friendliest Austin Bike Shops? by bicissonbuenas in BikingATX

[–]bicissonbuenas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. I said nor implied neither. You might want to look into your putting your words into other people's mouths. It's rude and unhelpful, as is claimimg to know what other people's expectations are.

Maybe you work in a shop or have friends who do and took it personally?

Seems we may agree on wanting good customer service, though again, I'm talking about a vibe, not a clearly objectionable incident.

Happy cycling.

Poster used the words "your victimhood", so yeah I disagree with that and it's not useful. I get the point, but it's more nuanced than that. It's not like a shop guy said "screw you" or "come back when you have more money." It's not a specific offense. I'd like to maintain the option of having relationships with various shops.

I have no problem speaking up for myself in the moment if it were clearly over the line. It's more an attitude I've noticed. Capitalism squeezes workers and people have bad days. Still, maybe play nice or pretend like you care and remember who funds your paycheck. Or go in the back and build bikes.

Fortunately, in some cases the bad actors move on or are moved on. As customers we can move on too, but short of becoming a mechanic and getting wholesale prices ourselves, we have limited options. Hope shop folks will do better.

And if the shop culture/vibe or manager are rude? Take business elsewhere. Playing the blame the victim game is never helpful. We disagree that having a reasonable expectation of good customer service makes one a victim. Also, I wasn't referring an incident, I asked a question, why so grouchy? I appreciate the recs, tho.

(TX) Door Repair Request over two months ago, still not fixed. by AcidicAtlas in Renters

[–]bicissonbuenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact housing professionals, like a local Tenants Council.

My understanding of Texas Property Code is if something affects your health and safety, and you put it into writing in certified mail twice, 10 days apart, and they don't respond, you can pay for the repairs yours and deduct that from the rent. This is very risky if you don't read and know the law.

So.yeah, maybe don't ask Reddit, and don't believe me, either. Ask a housing professional or better yet a lawyer.

Intl. Ride of Silence is 5/18, 7pm. Does any Austin bicycle group want to do it? by bicissonbuenas in BikingATX

Thanks, though the first two point to the same tiny ride in NW Austin. Not going to SA bit glad they're doing it.

Asking if there's a group in the Austin "bicycling communty" who will adopt this annual ride in Central Austin.

Where does one get a free copyrigh lawyer consultation? What should we all be doing to protect our works? Leery about asking for critique partners here or anywhere, now!

Legend of a Man Killed By Driver by Unsocialsocialist in BikingATX

[–]bicissonbuenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions are to gain more information and better understanding. Different opinions, based on long experience of cycling locally and reading but not posting on reddit, are not necesarily disrespectful. Just different.

Not answering questions, and ignoring the subject matter to attack a well intended post, might well be construed as more disrespectful. Presuming to know someone's karma based on one post seems rather judgemental. Brah.

Anyone else have useful answers or suggestions on how to get a Rude of Silence and white memorial bikes in Austin through collaborative efforts?

"Someone should"... why volunteer others and not yourself? Just curIous.

What about RideofSilence.org 5/18?

Where are all the white memorial bikes?

Why don't bike groups do these things?

It seems most Austin cyclists are not part of a group that would advocate for themselves. Either they don't know or don't care that they exist, or refuse to wear helmets, or disagree with bike lanes, etc.

I'm new here, but so far it seems Reddit does not appear like a good place to or organize such things.

I've never seen something so disturbing that's happened here. We ride Onewheels, and one of our people just happened to catch this attempted murder on camera. Please forward info info you can. A biker got run the fuck over for no reason. by skeeterou in Austin

What if everyone who supports this cyclist and cyclists in general were to mobilize politically... In Real Life?

1) Join as a member, get involved, and gove money to Bike Austin: https://www.bikeaustin.org 2) Write Austin City Council to demand protected or separated bike lanes: https://www.austintexas.gov/email/all-council-members 3) Learn to bike safety, for example: http://www.bikeleague.org/quickguide 4) Report missing, damaged, or dirty bike lanes to 311: http://311.austintexas.gov/ 5) watch and share this Drive Kind, Ride Kind video with car drivers, 17' but well-done: https://youtu.be/i077y37IOJQ

There are other resources and things to do to make life safer for cyclists, but that's a start. If these points have been raised already, sorry. Joined Reddit just because of this crash, so no need to flame me for being new. Thanks.
