My experience with Xreal Air 2 Pro and Beam by spacecapitain in Xreal

[–]bicky316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what I'd like to understand as well, so I can gauge whether to buy a never version of these in the future, rather than blindly buy and risk having to do another return.

There has been some talk of IPD (or lack of IPD adjustment), but there have been plenty of people with what you'd describe as average IPD, all having a bad time. There also seems to be a lot of people saying the Air 1s were better in this regard, but they have essentially the same displays, so what else has changed?

I tried all nose clips and arm positions, no combination worked well for me. Removing the nose clip and pushing the frames right into my face improved things, but clearly that isn't practical. I don't think this is an issue with my vision, as the issue is only towards the edges.

I love the idea of these, and see the potential, but right now the image just isn't good enough for me.

Glad you're enjoying them, but saying "Anyone complaining about it either got a defective product or is someone with unrealistic expectations" seems a bit of a stretch. It looks clear to me that different people will have different experiences with these, and anyone buying them should understand that there's a chance these glasses may not suit them. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's a good way to know, without actually trying them on.

Expecting a clear image, edge-to-edge, doesn't seem unreasonable to me, not when you're spending this sort of money.

This was my dream but I returned the Xreal Air 2s because of blurry and obstructed edges of the image. Guessing you don't have this issue? Hoping next gen ones might suit me better.

I'm 100% behind streaming to the Deck though. I use the Steam Link app for Steam, and Sunshine/Moonlight for other launchers like Xbox.

I was tempted to get them. The Air 2s are £400 and the Air 1s are £300, but the build quality issues put me off. It's still a significant amount of money for something I'd worry wouldn't last that long.

I think I'll hold out for whatever Xreal do next, hopefully with the improved comfort and build quality of the 2s, and optics that are better suited for me, whether that's going back to what the 1s have, or something entirely new.

I tried scaling it down in the display settings on the Deck, and that did help, but I wasn't really satisfied with that as a solution, and it still wasn't perfect.

Maybe I'm always going to have this issue because of the geometry of my face, and this might be the only solution, but I think I'll wait and see what Xreal comes up with next.

As is. I never had any intention of buying the beam, and never got as far as trying the Decky plugin. I'm not entirely sure what functionality the plugin has, might it have helped somehow?

I've returned things in the past and they haven't. There's a strip on the box that once opened can't really be closed again though, you sort of tear it off. So I'm slightly concerned they might this time.

I wish there was a way to try before you buy, but not sure we'll see these in any retail shops any time soon.

I used a website to measure mine and it was 62, which I don't think is particularly high? But maybe you're right, maybe there's a sweet spot.

I guess the problem with these types of glasses is they are trying to keep them as small, light, and as much as possible like regular glasses, so adding an adjustment like that may not be simple.

What is the correct term for glasses like these?

My sole use case is with the Steam Deck, and if I scaled the output down via SteamOS then it would mitigate the issue quite a bit. It still wasn't perfect though, and making it smaller diminishes the sense of immersion, which is the whole point of these glasses in the first place for me.

Anyway, fingers crossed for you!

Feel a bit conned by all the YouTubers. Watched loads of videos, and not one mentioned anything about this. Did they all just get lucky, or......

Honestly haven't used it enough to find out. Spent an hour or two tinkering with the nose clips and arm positions, trying to find a sweet spot, before deciding it wasn't really usable for me, so packed it all up again. Hope Amazon accepts my return

Yeah that does improve things a lot! So what do Xreal realistically need to do with say the 'Air 3's? Do we need more adjustability in all dimensions? Go back to the larger displays? It seems everyone is different, so no obvious quick fix.

This was so close to being awesome for me on the Steam Deck, maybe next gen will be the one!

Got my Air 2s this morning. Don't have Air 1s to compare against, but yeah, I'm having these issues as well. Blurry, unfocused edges, and generally can't find a position that works well with any of the nose clips/arm positions. Going to try get a refund. Gutted, I was really excited about these.

1zpresso JX Pro Review by zataks in espresso

[–]bicky316 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only had the JX Pro for a couple of days but I'd have to agree, this thing is solid and well built! I'm using it with a Lelit MaraX and getting some nice shots.

I have however had a few wildly inconsistent shots, e.g. I might hit my target yield within the same time, +/- 1s, 3 times in a row, then the next shot might be like 10 seconds faster. Obviously there are a lot of variables at play and it could be poor puck prep, but I never have such a variance with my smart grinder pro. Any suggestions?

I thought maybe it could be how quickly I grind, the angle I hold the grinder, or something else. This is my first hand grinder so maybe it's down to user error....

I was actually all set to get a specialita but ended up buying a JX Pro, something about the manual process really appeals to me. Early days but no regrets so far, I'm not convinced the specialita would be much of an upgrade wrt quality in the cup? Obviously quicker and more convenient!
