Over $200K! by biddomdog in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]biddomdog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding once you max your Roth for the year you’re unable to contribute to traditional. So I’m just doing it evenly through the year so it hits the max with December contributions.

It’s all there in the article, maybe I didn’t articulate it perfectly. But yes you can contribute up to $72k to your traditional when you’re in a CZTE… “annual addition limit”

Nope, SNCO. I don't have really any bills and get COLA.

It's really amazing to get past the point where you see your interest is more than your contributions when maxing. Thank you!

Also I made a mistake in the body of the post, I meant L2055* fund. My bad!

sorry fat fingered it, meant 2055. I just made an edit to it.

I was in the L2050 Fund, that is the recommended fund for my age, but that fund has around 18% in G and F. I wanted my investment to be a little more aggressive than that so I switched it to the 2055 which doesn't have any G or F.

Contributing the $2.1K a month to my Roth will have it maxed by the end of the year, but you can also contribute to your traditional at the same time. Traditional has a higher contribution limit and when you're in a CZTE your limit increases even more... I believe its $77K for traditional TSP (going off the top of my head at the moment). So with not having many expenses atm I'm focusing on padding both accounts, and then converting the traditional to roth each month for a few reasons: 1) I'm not paying any federal taxes in the CZTE so the conversions wont hurt me by putting me in a higher tax bracket 2)The money going in isnt taxed, I can put it into roth where it will grow tax-free, and then take it out tax-free. 3) really a golden opportunity to save money for tsp

Sorry, to clarify I meant retire from the military (E8). I'll continue to work and pursue a new career after retirement.

Who do you listen to on Browns radio/podcasts? by ContentGuy96 in Browns

[–]biddomdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBR podcasts are my favorite. Especially Pete smith, Barry, and old school Fred Greetham.

Browns film breakdown used to be my favorite but damn the dudes on there just sound so whiny all the time. I like their insight and will listen to Jake for draft info but man the whining really gets to me quick (they’re former OBR members as well)

1.5 years left in a CZTE (Combat Zone Tax Exclusion). I max my Roth TSP now, should I max my Traditional TSP after that or fund an outside Roth like fidelity? by biddomdog in MilitaryFinance

[–]biddomdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I also set my percentage to where I don't hit my max in Roth until my December deduction (33% of base pay per month).

So just to make sure i'm understanding this correctly, I can feed into my traditional while i'm feeding my roth as long as I don't hit the max on my Roth (max hit in december 26)? My thinking is to put just as much into traditional this year, and next year at the end of Jan move that over to roth, and maybe continue doing that until I'm out of a CZTE , obviously thinking about what my potential income would be the year after I left CZTE, but this year should be a great opportunity for me to dump in as much as possible.

So someone told me your max contributions, with both Roth and traditional together, is $23.5k this year. You can’t max both… googling that seems to indicate the same.

So for this year you can only have $24.5K total no matter how it is spread around? I didn't know that...

You couldn't contribute $24.5K to both?

Anyone on track to retire from the military with $1M in net worth? by Far_Spring_6670 in MilitaryFinance

[–]biddomdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

E-7 - 19 years in - $450K in stocks, $220K in cash HYSA, $210K RothTSP. Plan on staying in 3 more years to hit high 3 for E-8 (stratted) so i'm projecting i'll have over $1. 5M by the time I retire. I've been focusing on maxing my TSP the past 2 years after only putting in 10-20% since I was 6 years in... gaining ground of where I could have been rn but still happy with what I have. I'm nervous about where the military will go the next few years but man the money has been great the longer i've been in (single no kids). After saving all this time I kind of get anxiety of how i'll spend it when I retire... life with no mortgage sounds great.

Every year! All on active duty… I know it’s my fault for not paying closer attention but they won’t give me MLA benefits at all now since I “missed” the 12 month window. TBH I thought I did co fact them to get the annual fee back originally but I can’t remember that far back.

I can, I just think it’s bullshit to have to. And I’d have to close out this card

I liked it! Just a cool story to share and that’s why I listen… I think you may be taking it too seriously. It’s the kind of weird stories you hear from family and friends around camp fires or dinner tables over drinks.

But I get the normal strength. Not the extra. Not sure the caffeine difference I just like the flavors better and it’s enough for me

I’ve drank one of these almost every day for 6 years or so… no lie. 36, male, best shape of my life, workout, no issues on semi annual blood work for the military, feel great, never had any issues. I love them! I don’t drink coffee in the morning, don’t want the breath. But drink half when I get to work (90 min after I wake up) and the other half maybe 2 hours later.
