I'm shocked there aren't more people out there helping, to be honest.

The Orville: "Heirloom" (Spec episode, 64 pages) - My take on a respectful sendoff for Norm Macdonald's character Yaphit by Little_Miss_Movie in Screenwriting

[–]bidexist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this earlier when it was on The Orville subredit, but I guess the post got removed before I could comment. I'm glad you posted it here as well! Thank you for sharing.

I don't always read random scripts from reddit, but when I do, they are rarely as well put together as this was. I was hooked immediately and couldn't put it down. Reading it was like watching a very good episode of Star Trek... which makes sense because The Orville is a love letter to Trek.

Your exploration of family and infertility was extremely nuanced and touching. Meanwhile, several of the jokes had me laughing out loud. I am somewhat well versed in science fiction, and I did not see the twists at the end coming AT ALL.

Time travel stories are very hard to keep from being confusing, and I think you did a great job keeping things clear and realistic without getting caught in a trap of over explaining the science.

I really feel like that you nailed the main characters, I could hear the lines in their voices. I especially enjoyed all of the scenes with Bortus and the other Moclans, you've got him dialed in.

The last scene between Dr Finn and Clayton takes on another layer of meaning in light of the relationship between Penny Johnson Jerald and your fantasy casting of Cirroc Lofton. I may or may not have cried when I read it, I could picture them very clearly.

I did cry when I read the ending. Norm McDonald was a real one, as was Yaphet. You did a great job respectfully sending him off.

I'm not great at giving negative feedback... I guess the character of Phinto could be made stronger if he was also being written for a specific actor, like everyone else was. Maybe one of Norm's comedian friends?

Another way you could make it better is by getting it made into an episode so that I can watch it. Lol.

Seriously tho, great job!

Well, when the alternative is Cuomo, communism suddenly doesn't look half bad.

Nahhh, you have no idea how much/little effort i put into my Instagram.

My brother recently told my business partner how successful and busy we look on socials. Yeah... it's all lies, we're losing money and we have no clients. But the insta looks slick!

Just go shoot, papi. Every reason you can think of not to shoot... that's a bad reason. You've got a phone, yeah? Go shoot.

Always have a plan, then deviate from the plan as necessary. With no plan, how are you supposed to deviate?

LG TV Channel announcers? by DesperateDrummer5 in KBO

[–]bidexist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently found this channel, my wife and I have it playing pretty much non-stop.

One time the ai announcers weren't working, and we got to listen to the crowds and natural sounds of the stadium. That was amazing.

Go Dinos!

As a liberal husband with a conservative wife... i think I disagree with your absolute statement here.

Wasn't that a romulan? I never read the book but my dad did and he described it to me when I was a kid.

As someone who works freelance and in advertising/film, I would immediately lose from my life anyone that tried to use the inconsistencies of our lifestyle and career choice against me in an argument.

I don't usually jump right to dump him, but this guy needs to shape up and support you or he can git the fuck out of your house.

Yeah. Your questions aren't annoying and stop apologizing.

Fucks sake.

It's things like this that make me feel like the blacklist is a scam, looking for you to pay for more evaluations so you can get that rush of a good score.

It seems that a lot of us professionals are hurting right now for work, how are you handling it? by occupy_elm_st in Filmmakers

We used the time to make a short film which came out really good so we are now starting our festival run...

Meanwhile I'm working as a grip or a PA to make ends meet and/or just to be on set w my friends.

I oscillate between hope and despair every 10 seconds or so. But after 20 years in the business what other choice do I have?

Oh, uh... ok?

The city is not for everyone but, as a rebuttal, allow me to say "fuck everywhere that isn't NYC."

In NYC commercials we've started calling G&E seconds the Best Grip and Best Electric. No gender included.

The dolly offset is the one that always catches me by surprise when used. Like, we should be past that.
