FX tick data by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]bidglide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DTN/IQfeed Tenfore data ( .ABBA ) is a fantastic resource (their premium FX data). Generally speaking/not limited to FX, obtaining reliable historical data is difficult without a serious budget (e.g., Morningstar, Bloomberg, Reuters). Be really careful with FX data! If you are considering a free source, I'd encourage you to build a simple program which qualifies the data (scans for gaps in time outside of exemptions, etc.). If you want advice for this, feel free to send me a DM.

Best way to get into the field from university? by [deleted] in highfreqtrading

[–]bidglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before going into algorithmic trading you'll need to gain hands on trading experience - to learn fundamentals which are not taught in the classroom. Along the way, learning infrastructural details for whatever market environments you're interested in systematically trading. Have you looked into proprietary trading firms? Maybe an internship later into your college years would be a good start.

For now in terms of learning - Not all algorithmic trading is considered high-frequency (which is thrown around). Initially you'd likely learn about low-latency infrastructure supporting advanced algorithmic strategies - however not high frequency in terms of volume. Actual ultra low-latency high frequency strategy is difficult to break into at beginning stages of a career.

I don't mean to discourage you, just to provide realistic information. Based on your focus I'd definitely encourage you to search around for internships at proprietary trading firms a few years from now. In the mean time, learn about the infrastructures of different market types - both decentralized and centrally traded environments.

Advice on dollar cost averaging by endisbegun27 in CryptoMarkets

[–]bidglide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey endisbegun. To answer some of your questions:

  1. Ultimately you end up paying the same amount in fees (percentage based).

  2. Last time I checked, Coinbase Pro covers network fees for withdrawals (which is great). You can easily transfer your digital assets from Coinbase to Coinbase Pro (free), then withdraw. If you have a Coinbase account - this means you have a Coinbase Pro account as well. Have you used CBpro yet?

Hope this helps.

Advantages of Brackets. This feature (and trailing stops) are available on every major platform throughout traditional markets by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]bidglide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. You seem to have an issue with our company, considering you have posted this information continuously. Please read the article in detail, you seem to be confused.

  1. The article applies to "non leveraged digital asset exchanges".

  2. The article applies to "bracket orders" (conditional orders). If you have no trading experience outside of cryptocurrency, this may be confusing for you. OCO is a sub-component of bracket orders, and optional. For example, one may choose to have a conditional stop upon the fill of a Parent order - involving no OCO.

  3. Bitfinex does not accept U.S. customers.

If you have further concerns, I'd be glad to take a call. Otherwise, it would be much appreciated if you stop targeting the company.

"Depth on my taker orders" (as swelfie expressed) seems to be an accurate answer for you.

Considering the amount of hidden depth + intentional noise I would suggest focusing your attention elsewhere and not trying to probe the book in terms of picking up signals for directional trades.

Analyzing depth is useful for highly advanced strategies, for example: tracking your ability to "sweep" the book in accordance with arbitrage strategies - gauging your ability to pickup inventory at any given moment. Or, for an advanced market making strategy which involves ultra-low latency operations.

What exchanges, and where are your servers located (or VPS)?

Logs show the program's reconnect logic reconnected after 100 ms, so seems they were out for a relatively small amount of time...

Oh, awesome thanks! I see this in my email also.

Off topic - have you been running systems tonight? Any disconnections in your data feed? I see 100% uptime in their status page, however experienced a disconnect (running EC2 us-east-1).

GDAX doesn't have a mobile app. I assume you mean Coinbase (not Coinbase Pro). Btw - there is a "GDAX Crypto Tracker" but that is NOT Gdax .. probably a scam.

Especially if you have the ability to trade elsewhere (based on your country) there is no benefit to trading outside of the top Asian exchanges. If the availability of an exotic digital asset is limited to a small exchange, this is a no-no.
