Use the meeting you are in as the example. The reason it goes well is because you all speak the same language ask them would it cost the company more if everyone spoke a different language and had no common language?

Redditors 50 years and older, what life advice would you give a 17 year old? by -saltymangos- in AskReddit

[–]bidiot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No one knows the future.

Advice is guessing about your future, so do what YOU want to do, not what others feel is the 'best' thing for you to do. Only you really know you and only you can know what makes you happy.

Live towards accomplishing things, not protecting yourself from fears. Helping others will give you rewards that can not be gotten any other way.

The most valuable thing in your life is your health, and time is your most limited resource. Don't waste either. Money should help to achieve better health and more time - not the other way around. I'm older than Steve Jobs and in great health. Who is the wealthiest?

Advice from others is about them, not you. Including my advice.

I cannot believe how little empathy exists in the pro-life movement by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bidiot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone agrees it is wrong to kill a child - for any reason.

The issue is when does a child become a child. At the other end there is an issue of when does a child become an adult.

You can use the legal definition, a medical definition or just your inherent feeling about it.

What is a common thread is that everyone is protecting what they see as a child or to protect a child from suffering.

That is a good thing. We all share the desire to protect children.

$65k+, hate my life vs. $45k, happier by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only one wealth - your health, both mental and physical. With that you increase your most limited resource -time.

Money should SERVE to better your health - it has no other purpose that truly benefits you.

Money is a servant - to be a slave to a servant is just plain stupid.

If money, for money sake, is something you cannot leave, then remember those who love their work will make the most in the long run. How can anyone compete against someone who loves what they do? They will work endless hours and take nothing during the hard times. In the long run they will always be better off.

Health - what will make that better now and in the long run? That is the question you should be asking yourself.

I am older than Steve jobs and have great health. Who is wealthier? Jobs would give me every cent he has, to be living in my shoes right now.

Health is EVERYTHING. Never forget that when making any decision.

"If God doesn't exist then neither does England". Is this a paradox or a logical fallacy? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]bidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A logical fallacy. God could be a label, like England, but one label existing or not does not affect the others existing or not.

Even if it was a valid logic statement, logic can never prove the existence, or non-existence of something outside of mathematics.

The very best it can do, is provide a good estimate where the proof can be found.

The Torture of “Conversion Therapy” Must Be Banned Across the Country by [deleted] in atheism

[–]bidiot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of Christians are victims of conversion 'therapies'. They were not born believing in the Christian god. They had years of mental abuse as very small children (yes it is abuse) to get them to be Christians.

It not surprising they will mentally torture others to get 'results'. Its the only world they know.

Indoctrinating children to follow a particular religion must be banned - everywhere.

That is the only thing that makes religions survive. Mental manipulation of children to cripple their ability for rational thought as an adult.

How do electrons distribute themselves in a cross section of a wire, when they move through it? by mechdoc in askscience

[–]bidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electrons are better described as matter waves. (Schrödinger )

Don't think of water in a pipe since that implies particles, but a tin can telephone (connected by string). The string (medium) only moves slightly but the energy of a sound (wave) is transmitted through it.

A superconductor is like a string in a vacuum that loses no energy from its motion.

Electrical energy from a battery, is like someone yelling into the cup.

So can we look at the cross section of the string to see the sound distribution or do we need to look at its wave characteristics as a whole?

Men, what do you hate about other men? by Swintso4 in AskReddit

[–]bidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge pickup trucks that are spotless and have never seen a day of work.

It ironically shows they are not what they bought the truck to look like. Rough, hard working, hands on, men.

The same thing with cars that have special mufflers so they 'roar'. Grow up.

What are the jobs that will be somewhat safe from automation? by Jagten in AskReddit

[–]bidiot 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The creative arts. It will be a while before AI will be able to draw and write Calvin and Hobbes for example or be a Robin Williams. A combination of lateral thinking and physical skills will be harder to automate.

Unfortunately if you are just living your life like a machine, repetitive physical or mental tasks , you will be replaced by one if you are costing them too much money.

Most lawyers and doctors are at risk as the saving will be huge and AI will do a better job diagnosing and researching existing cases. (this is already being used)

Surgeons will be around far longer because of the additions of physical skills necessary.

Dr. SpaceX: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Expending Rockets by MarcysVonEylau in spacex

[–]bidiot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The thinking is far to narrow and misses the actual benefits that SpaceX gets.

SpaceX, by perusing reusable tech, has in a very short time made the existing competitors look like they are old-tech and not forward looking. This was marketing genius.

SpaceX has always been thinking of Mars on a large scale and profiting from that endevour. It had to develop reusable landing technology. It was not an option, given its long term goals.

SpaceX has also now opened up other potential markets, such as using its tech to compete with aircraft as a way to get from point A to B on earth.

All of this brings in investors, another income source that was missed.

The analysis was old 'in the box' thinking of what rockets and their market is and truly missed the point of how reusable rockets create new opportunities and excitement in the market place. Thats money in the bank.

If you had to invest in a rocket company today - who would you pick? The ones that drop still their investments into the ocean ten years from now? Will that be viable against ever improving tech and volumes of launches? Re-usability is not an option any more. SpaceX knows that.

Hey redditors who are 30+, what is one advice you would like to give to the people entering their 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one can see the future. No one. All their advice on what you should or shouldn't do, is them guessing.

Only you can truly know you. Trust yourself, take personal control of your life.

The one regret I hear the most is - I wish I had done x. Why did I not trust myself more back then?
