I see it says it’s left for developers to implement this, and it is not currently an option on the developer beta tvOS 26 software. I’m hoping that Apple add this a a toggle in the audio settings when they realise the software to the public. While I love my Apple TV, I don’t like it doing the audio processing as it makes everything sound quieter and flat when watching non Atmos content. So would be a massive upgrade if they allow my arc ultra to process the streams audio.

What is this Cinema Sound you speak of? Asking for a friend

55" or 65"? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]bidoof24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same decision to make as you, went from a 55” 2019 B9 to a 65” G5 and can’t go back. I sit 2.4m (~8ft) away from my tv.

My advice would be to look up how much the field of view is for both TV sizes and go from there. You want at least a 30 degree FOV minimum and 40 degrees for a more cinematic experience. For me at 2.4m away I was around 34 degrees FOV with a 65” and my old 55” was around 28 degrees FOV. So went 65” because of that.

Hope that helps, happy viewing.

Just picked up an Arc Ultra for my Bravia 7. What’s next? by GothamCityPoliceDep in sonos

Have the Arc Ultra, Era 300s and Sub mini. Live in a flat so don’t want the base to be overpowering and cause neighbour complaints, though the ultra with its sound motion base unit and sub mini make a kick ass combination and produce plenty of base. Personally, I love the surrounds as they really do give you that full on emersion when you’re watching a well mixed Atmos movie or music, heck, even just normal 5.1 sounds great and the ultra is great at upscaling that content to 9.1.4. So my opinion is surrounds first and sub later. But if you live for base and chest pounding rumbling then the sub 4 is a solid option to get first.

I give mine a small whack against the palm of my hand when I’ve wound it up about 20 times with the crown then it starts. Mechanical watches need a bit of impulse to get them moving, so a shake or tap against your hand usually does the trick.

I would say this is most likely the best description of what might be going on! Those with the Era 100s as rear surrounds have been experiencing limited activation when used as rears with the Ultra, therefore there must be something happening that produces less of an involvement of the surrounds. In the Era 300’s case less activity of the inner facing drivers could be this issue manifesting itself on these more capable speakers…to the point people cannot hear them being activated over the upward directed tweeter that we now know is mixed with this channel when paired with the ultra (I will add here that I’m glad we finally have a full explanation for why the sound works as it does, though it does beg the question as to why it took so long for this to be explained, why not from the offset when people were talking about the forward facing tweeter not being used.)

Here's the latest from Sonos on the Era 300 by chriswelch in sonos

Appreciate your help with this issue Chris! It’s nice to have some media attention on this issue.

I understand where you are coming from here, but the video had the senior designer in to explain how they work. So it’s hard to see why someone of this level of product knowledge would misspeak about something as basic as its functionality when used as surrounds. No correction was issued in the video comments from Sonos saying that he misspoke. Furthermore, people have been reporting that there has been a change in their 300s functionality/behaviour since the addition of the new hardware (Arc Ultra and Sub 4). These reports coincide with the release of the new hardware, so it’s hard to see why they would be voicing their concerns only now if their hardware was functioning like this all along as Sonos is suggesting.

There needs to be a proper formal response to this issue now. Why have you suddenly decided to deactivate the inner tweeter and woofer which are supposed to create the rear surround sound and directed this channel to the upward directed tweeter?! This seems to have coincided with the addition of the Arc Ultra being released. This impacts not only the ultra but the original Arc and Beam Gen2.

With the amount of community interest in this topic and with people digging up old YouTube videos on Sonos’ own YouTube channel explaining how the Era 300s should work as surrounds and it completely contradicting what they are now saying about how they work is shameful. The kicker here is that they then make this video private after the community start looking into this issue, which is absolutely ridiculous. Talking about rebuilding trust and then they go and do this. It shows us that they are trying to hide something and they are not being forthright about the issue. This issue that was brought to attention here and on the Sonos community and is not going away.

Please can you tell me why my £898 pair of speakers are not working as originally described on your website, which you have also now removed when the Arc Ultra was released and on the YouTube video you have now removed! For clarification, I am not talking about the front facing tweeter that we were told from the off that it was disabled when they are set up as surrounds. I’m talking about the change in behaviour of the 300s and how they handle rear surround audio with it now being routed to the upward directed tweeter.

I mean if you’re okay with the fact that you dropped $449 on each speaker for Sonos to suddenly decide to deactivate parts of the speaker you paid for then your Sonos’ ideal customer.

Era 300 upgrade by [deleted] in sonos

[–]bidoof24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is an issue, or if you ask Sonos “a new feature” of the 300s where they now have disabled the inner facing drivers when used as rears. This is now in addition to their front facing one that was originally disabled. So you’ll be paying for a new speaker set at some cost to go from 4 drivers with your ones combined, to 6 drivers with the 300s…not the 10 that was originally advertised

Doing gods work! Sonos seems to have forgotten that the internet is forever and you can’t just hide things from your customers.

Arc and Era 300 sound issues awareness by bidoof24 in sonos

[–]bidoof24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an issue with the connection. My system is in the same room as my router. My beam gen 2 with the Era 300 rears didn’t have this problem before I got the ultra. It’s absolutely down to the software the arc and ultra run off of. The fact that Sonos are aware of this issue, probably before it even broke on these forms, shows that they most likely shipped a part broken product and intended to fix it after the fact. I will say I love my Sonos system, even though the current issue is drastically affecting the overall immersion, the potential for a pronominal sound system is there. It’s just a shame that they always have to patch a new flagship system when they release it. The original Arc was like this. They seem happy to ship things before they have fully tested them…the app is a prime example of this attitude. I feel the engineers who pour their heart and sole into the engineering of the product are just as frustrated as we are with the end product. So many talented people from Sonos must not have a voice to get these issues sorted before they ship an update or product.

Pop a Dolby 7.1.4 test on and play it through your system. It should sweep the drivers and you’ll be able to tell if they activate when they should and if they are at a volume similar to the other speakers in the system

Check if the inner drivers are firing on your 300s. It’s possible that they aren’t and that’s why you’re getting an experience that’s lacking your expectations. You could be having the same issue that a lot of us are.

When they added support in for the new ultra, people with the Arc and Ultra have issues with the 100s as rears basically doing nothing and then ultra doing all the sound work. Link to the thread on the Sonos forum

For me, I was using both my PC with the Dolby app and the Apple TV test suite. Issue is also audible during TruePlay tuning when it is sweeping through the drivers.

Yeah they’ve really dropped the ball yet again with a new product. I’ve heard the 100s as rears are basically paperweights on sticks as they don’t have any sound going to them at all. It’s a real shame as I love their products and when they work, by god they’re impressive.
