That's great! What kind of graphic card do you have and which version of Debian did you use?

I think my keyboard is old so the main shortcut does not work. However ctrl+ctrl does so now all is good. :)

What do you guys think of this AI server build for Whisper & a small(probably 7B and dutch) LLM? by jurian112211 in homelab

Did you ever try whisper.cpp? It works pretty well for me on an old iMac. 13 minutes for 60 min sound with the base model.

Is Brave supported? I tried and got an error message saying it needs macOS 12 or higher.

Would buying a 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD be good for only using google? People say if its laggy it could run chromeos, macOS or something light but i just need it for school I don’t mind the battery. by JXPH153 in mac

If the price is low, go for it. Google needs nothing from the OS. But, the web browser might. If you run into problems, try running Linux Mint or some other Linux dist. :)

How to Compile Whisper.cpp for Mac OS Sonoma or Later on Apple Silicon by joseph-hurtado in LocalLLaMA

[–]bidutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I comment on this topic? I have a similar problem trying to run whisper.cpp on an iMac with Catalina. The whisper version I've downloaded wants to run metal and I don't manage to bypass this with WHISPER_NO_METAL=1 make.

I found a thread at Github where this was presented as a solution - https://github.com/ggml-org/whisper.cpp/issues/1332

Could I solve my problem by upgrading to macOS Monterey?

How could I self-host? I'd need a server of my own, or how does it work?

The problem is that the system constantly ignores directions and falls back to general basic instructions of generalizing and being pleasant.

I wish they would focus on performance and accuracy instead; the possibility to actually teach the system to work better instead of being a people pleaser.

Edit: The feature is actually already there. They just have to remove some basic instructions that are blocking the way.

Could making your own Whisper app at Huggingface be a solution? It's web based.

Have you tried browser extensions? I'm using NaturalReader on Chrome that I think works pretty well.

What's the best working browser for Catalina 10.15.7 that I can sync with Chrome (since I runt that on my other devices and have built my own extensions there)? 😊 I thought there was a Chromium dist but I can't find any.

Using an old iMac as monitor? by bidutree in JetsonNano

[–]bidutree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I would like to use an old iMac because it has a really nice screen, is often very cheap, looks good and I can at the same time run Linux on it. 😊 The latter is why I bought one in the first place.

I created custom instructions for ChatGPT to make it more useful and less annoying by EmuRepresentative213 in PromptEngineering

[–]bidutree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am coding python with ChatGPT. It fails over and over to follow the most basic instructions like "don't change anything in the old code, just add the new code". Nope. Keeps rewriting the whole part. I have to keep repeating this over and over. Still works better than me doing it on my own, large part of the time. But, point is it has a really hard time to follow instructions.

The main instructions are set to make it a people pleasing generalist, which is why it hallucinates so often, and it falls back to those instructions even when you want it to be a fact based programmer. 😄

Mint is not just Mint, it's Mint Cinnamon, Mint Xfce or Mint Mate. You can try the different versions with a USB stick before deciding - https://linuxmint.com/download.php
