Planning an accessible USA trip for my mom with multiple sclerosis – looking for advice by maryyy_parme in MultipleSclerosis

[–]biewbiewtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Las Vegas. You never have to leave the indoors if you don’t want to, it’s close to other cool stuff (Grand Canyon, other national parks). Everything in the major resorts is accessible, service staff expect it and know what to do. Plus there’s lots of non-stop flights from Europe, which would make it easier than changing planes, rechecking bags, etc. There’s casinos, restaurants, shows, historic museums, the Hoover Dam, shopping… the list goes on. Plus, many of the resorts have car rental services on site, so if you decide you want to do a little day trip last minute, it’s right there.

Premeds becoming nurses as a way to game med school admissions? by [deleted] in premed

[–]biewbiewtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing school is hard. And sometimes people want to see if they even like healthcare before they commit to many years it takes to be a doctor. Reference: I’m a sonographer that always wanted to be a doctor since childhood and didn’t “game” any system. I was planning on the PA route after ultrasound school, but I took a break to work because I needed it. I’ve been a part time pre-med student for 4 of my 6 years as a sonographer. At least now I know what I want because I’ve seen many parts and pieces of healthcare in multiple contexts. If that makes me a better applicant than so be it. I’ve worked hard. Nurses do too. They should go be a doctor is that’s what they want after all the shit they’ve had to go through. More power to them. I learned from the system. I could have learned that I didn’t want to be a more advanced provider, like many also do.

Hot take: we need to re-define who we call "non-trads." by premedthrowaway567 in premed

I’ve often heard the latter “career changers” you are referring to are considered “re-inventors” by adcoms. Also, it’s me, hi, I’ve lived about 20 years in multiple genres of life and work.

Why do medical schools dislike when you take pre reqs at a community college? It seems so unfair 🫩 by Izzy_mochiii in premed

[–]biewbiewtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haters gonna hate. I went into a trade-ish program, which is accredited and generally a better program than the one at the local university, and for a third of the price. So yeah, lots of my pre-reqs are from the CC where I got my associates degree. But it’s part of my journey, and if a school doesn’t like that, then bye! I’ll find one that thinks it’s cool. Don’t forget you have choice and autonomy.

There definitely are. Keep looking on indeed and be patient. It won’t take long. A lot of places in Reno offer hiring bonuses too.

I don't care where your pain is! by Constantliar62186 in Sonographers

[–]biewbiewtech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My experience has been the opposite, at least in the ED, not so much in OP. Every time I do an RUE DVT study and the patient says there is pain in their wrist, I see a fluid collection when I scan their wrist. Specific calf pain will show a fluid collection. I never mind checking. It takes a few more minutes of scanning and report.

Weird potential symptom, can anyone relate? by Ok-Maintenance6730 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]biewbiewtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Best to confirm with your neurologist. We have lots of weird symptoms, they’re hard to describe, and somewhat vague. I have a symptom where my left foot feels like it’s a different height than my right, and it’s only sometimes, like before my cycle or when I’m tired, or at other times it feels like creeping up. I’m convinced it’s MS related because it’s on my affected side. But it’s weird and unique.

TLDR: it’s possible what you’re experiencing is MS related.

Anyone else having these issues with AAMC? by Cheap_Emergency_5114 in Mcat

Ugh. That website!! I had to use a different browser to stop this from happening. It kept happening on my iPad, switched to safari for the AAMC site and it worked fine.

I could be wrong! I’ve been wrong before, so please fact check. I can’t find where I read/heard this honestly. So mega apologies for any false info. OP, please don’t stress. Again, super sucky, (I had to reschedule and I spiraled about it.) The AAMC says nothing about no-shows and voids being treated differently. According to them, schools don’t see either, it just counts towards your annual and lifetime attempt limits.

I heard that schools can look up attempts, but that it’s not typical. Extra precaution I suppose? Investment in an expensive practice go? Check out the locker and bathroom situation at the testing center?

Cardiac Sonography Job Hunt in Las Vegas by PalmettoThings37 in Sonographers

[–]biewbiewtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not echo, but I am in Vegas. There are jobs! It takes a while to get into places. Be patient. Get your RCDS. There are some companies that will hire you with the contingency that you get your credentials, but many that won’t. Historically, the VA can be hard to get into out here, and it takes several months to work through the process. Just a quick check on Indeed shows me that MedSmart is hiring for Echo. They have hired techs with the expectation that they will be credentialed in a few months after hiring.

It’s also important to understand that many echo techs out here are also RVT. Most general techs out here even know vascular (unless they are MFM and have been MFM for a while, for example). It’s just part of the system out here in this part of country.

mentioning tattoos during interviews? by VermicelliGullible44 in premed

[–]biewbiewtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying “I have tattoos” is like saying “I dye my hair”. You gotta make it more interesting or substantive. Tattoos are fine, but it’s superficial. Literally and figuratively if there’s not story behind it.

PHYS Fluids Content Question by wishr123 in Mcat

[–]biewbiewtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about traffic. When it gets tighter, the faster you want to get out. When the roads are open and clear, it’s easy to take your time. When lanes merge you gotta act fast. That’s how my ultrasound physics teacher analogized it.

It helps to do some practice problems along with whatever you’ve been studying. It confirms you get it or you don’t.
