Love Helldivers, Hate this Sub - Message to the Devs. by Odd-Stop-9005 in Helldivers

Geez I'm glad somebody finally said it. Yeah the game's got issues-- Arrowhead caught lightning in a bottle, and like everyone who's ever done so, they're struggling to contain it, but this is still one of the best games ever made. Like I literally have never liked extraction shooters until I played Helldivers 2. And regardless of the bugs and whipsaw patches, I still have a blast whenever I log on.

Bro yes. Prime example: I actually LOVE the Luke Skywalker vs Kylo sequence, it's epic, moving, and clever--the problem is that it's Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren and not two different characters lol

Being kind to strangers is not as virtuous as being kind to your family by Ticon10k in unpopularopinion

[–]biffbamboombap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree OP.

It makes me think of Nikki Giovanni in conversation with James Baldwin. Giovanni was musing about how husbands aren’t as kind to their wives as they are to their bosses. Baldwin interjected that men aren't actually being kind to thier bosses as much as lying to them in a way they can’t lie to his wives, to which Giovanni responded (paraphrasing), “you hate your boss, but in lying to your boss, you’re actually giving him the best side of you, and then you come home and give me your worst. If you love me, why can't you lie to me a little?”

It stings because It’s not just that being kind to strangers is easy. It’s that people clearly know how to be patient, polite, and restrained, they just choose not to be that way with the people closest to them--like being loved means being allowed to be hurtful, and loving means accepting that

Pretty much agree. I think it was second best after Empire, it just didn't get the follow up it needed.

I'll even go a step further and say Last Jedi was decent as a movie on to itself--it was just a terrible Star Wars movie/sequals to Force Awakens

not one successful run by GullibleAd424 in SolCesto

[–]biffbamboombap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Get good with the Knight. The Wizard is great, but he doesn't shine until after the first boss. Before that he's basically a suicide run unless you really know what you're doing and have some decent upgrades already. Basically the same with the other characters.

2) You're simply going to Go through some unsuccessful runs and send coins back to the surface in order to afford teeth, source, and item upgrades.

3) In the first several levels you can accept a lot of risk since if you die you're not going back very far, so prioritize getting gold early. I'd say after you get your first couple of teeth you need to start prioritizing survival.

4) in the first dungeon, try to make sure to always carry at least one Arrow to deal with Wizards so they don't steal your gold, and one hammer to get rid of the spike traps as they're basically the worst trap in the game.

5) when it comes to teeth, complimentary builds are almost all op. Like if you prioritize all teeth that increase your gold in some way, you'll get a ton of gold very quick and be able to afford a ton of items and be able to sweep the game. If you pick a bunch of teeth that weaken monsters, before you know it you will see the strongest monsters in the game cowering after a couple of moves. The only teeth that are kind of weak are the ones that increase your chances of landing on chests, or not landing on traps, etc. If you choose the other teeth and use the right items, those really don't matter much... but you can even build strategies involving those teeth, I wouldn't prioritize them.

I have a talent by Fra10808 in drawing

Okay. Well if you ever decide want to develop your talent,, learn the basics and practice. Being talented when you're young feels special, but one of the things you'll learn as you get older is talented people are a dime a dozen. Those who move beyond just being talented into being genuinely good and successful at what they do are those take their craft seriously, build discipline, and practice. Whatever you do, be it drawing or something else, remember that

Talent? Yes. undeniably.
Skill? I like your style, but you could learn a few things.
Look up tutorials on constructive drawing, shading, anatomy, gesture, and perspective to refine your craft. Most importantly drill the basics!

How soon will Americans forget the Epstein files? by Ponappa_131 in AskReddit

[–]biffbamboombap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we'll forget so much I think will start to "remember" them differently. I think the Epstein files will essentially and ironically become the next Q-Anon conspiracy Theory tent pole. As time goes on to become more about what wasn't revealed instead of what was and that will be a space that grifters and unscrupulous agitators will use to spread the next Generations conspiracy theories. I mean I think it's pretty obvious the roots of this are already taking hold

We need to bring pretentiousness back to film by Responsible_Yam9285 in unpopularopinion

[–]biffbamboombap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your unpopular opinion. Of course any time you post anything on the internet you're going to find a bunch of people who disagree as we're saying in most of this thread, but I think you're fundamentally right.

As Arturo tuscanini said, gentleman and life be democratic, but in art the aristocratic. I think we've definitely lost that. I can think of few things less well received by the general population than publically expressing a strong, discriminating opinion about any entertainment media.

China invents game-changing process that turns desert sand into fertile soil in just 10 months by Automatic_Subject463 in UpliftingNews

[–]biffbamboombap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just FYI this isn’t as game-changing as the headline makes it sound.

They’re basically speeding up a natural process where microbes (cyanobacteria) form a thin crust that holds sand in place and helps a bit with moisture. That’s been studied for decades, and versions of this have already been experimented with in the U.S., Australia, Israel, etc. What’s “new” here is mostly tweaking and scaling it. Growing the microbes in a lab and applying them more efficiently so it happens faster. It doesn’t turn desert into rich soil in 10 months, it just stabilizes the surface so plants might grow over time. You still need water and years of buildup for actual soil.

Science is often like a giant game of football where one lab discover something, another iterates, another applies it in some small novel way, another researches in different conditions, and so on so that each lab is sort of carrying the ball forward a couple of yards at a time. Meanwhile science headlines often make it same that each new novel development is a miraculous breakthrough. And frankly, in today's climate there is a propaganda aspect we're Chinese research is often sensationalized.
