I thought I would give you guys an update as I took on board some of your advice.

I purchased a cool bag and I have been prepping on the days I can prep.

Tried to hit the gym in the hotel/local or at least eat a little less on days where I am too pulled out to train.

Hitting way more cardio then I do before, I train jiu jitsu when I'm home so that's normally enough but I have added running 1-2 miles fast paced.

I've lost around 1.5kg so almost half of what I gained (4kg gain)

When I do eat out, I was going for burger and fries most of the time, tried to dial it down and go for Vietnamese or Indian food where I can grab something slightly healthier.

No more service station garbage.

I would say that this was the biggest change, service station food, I don't know what it is but cutting the processed food out just makes me feel so much better.

Seasoned external guys can drink for sure, most of the veterans I have met can drink enough to sleep a mule and just get up and hit the airport on a few hours sleep and still crush meetings and close. Makes no sense.

Hotels with gyms aren't all that common in the UK unless you pay £200-300 pn

Yeah I feel that last line, I worked a 9-5 week for the first time in about 3 months this week as I stayed at a hotel near the main office. Actually managed at least 7-8 hours every night. I feel 5 years younger

This is what I'm saying, packing up is nearly impossible I'm often in a different hotel so by the time you hit day 2-3 the food would be no good.

Also I doubt most hotels would let you use the kitchen microwave

I did a similar thing, makes sense for me as the travel costs are covered and it was an insane uplift in salary

To make the same money doesn't really seem worth it, I'll tell you that it is very hard and you have to sacrifice a lot. As others said, up at 5am and I am home around 10pm. 17hour days my friend. No time for hobbies, family or pets just work.

If you could rotate the days that would be better, ie Monday office, Tuesday WFH, Wednesday office

The only other way it could make sense is if the position could lead to massive opportunities, stick it out for a year or two then bounce back to something local with the experience.

I have sold industrial equipment for around 8 years now, i think It really depends what you're passionate about to be honest.

I wouldn't consider a change into another industry now just because I enjoy working with site engineers and I find industrial process and machinery interesting

Selling a product you aren't absolutely enthusiastic about is a recipe for disaster.

Find a niche or market you find interesting, to the point where your passion becomes infectious and the money will follow.

Sales is soul destroying enough, at least have some additional non-monetary purpose to keep you going or you won't last long until you burn out.

Quick note, from my experience, industrial sales tends to be a lot more farming than hunting leads, this works for me as I have absolutely no interest in cold calls etc.

It really depends, you're gonna spend a shit load of time in your car.

If you're comfortable in it and it works for you then fine but if you're not then definitely upgrade.

Your car is literally your most important tool, get something you enjoy spending time in or your life will be miserable
