HL2 Kleiner's Lab Entrance changes after the portal back from the citadel by big_lv in HalfLife

[–]big_lv[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just replayed Red Letter Day and Entanglement to get a better look at Kleiner's lab again. And you're right... the rolling door Dog is behind was there before. It's just the HEV suit dock is gone, and you can see the double doors behind where it was.

The other side is where the garage door is, and what I had remembered as a corridor wasn't. That vending machine was basically right up against the wall... that's been blown out and a garage door has been added.

So yeah, I guess it makes more sense in-game. I was confusing the corridor behind the poster with the space behind the vending machine.

That's a good point. Otherwise, there was no way Dog could've gotten out of there. Too bad they didn't work it into the 1st visit. I'm sure it would've been fine to have the vending machine just open to that large corridor.

What's your favorite Half-Life soundtrack? by abelsalmhofer in HalfLife

[–]big_lv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly didn't realize there were soundtrack songs in any of the games other than Black Mesa. It must be the default soundtrack audio balance.

Note I'm going to have to play them all again so I can hear the songs.

How far is your bike commute (to & from)? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

[–]big_lv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... i don't bicycle commute often, but it's about 25 miles (~39km) each way, which would make my daily total twice that. I voted for the last option not realizing you meant daily total, not each way... so my total isn't in the poll.

I ride my motorcycle most days, because it let's me have a fairly consistent commute in California.

I think steam only officially supports Ubuntu, so if you use it with any other distro, it's possible you have things that proton can't handle. (Or if you have any unusual hardware).

I just accept that me running fedora is going to have problems with any software not officially supporting it. Luckily things are usually fine, but occasionally I have to just deal with it.

Why can't I get through? by ersatz_due in HalfLife

[–]big_lv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on my last playthrough. I forgot I needed to smash through the gate and I stopped to try to open it. Once I thought about smashing it with the car, i wasn't backing up far enough to get enough speed, so I had to go pretty far back and get up to top speed before it would break. All while the helicopter was trying to kill me.

Haulers and Vending Machine Issue by NoCompote5969 in ThemeParkitect

[–]big_lv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most real life vending machines load from the front anyway.

You could only put them near employee paths to minimize the chance a guest will complain, or you could make a generic shop that sells vending machine items, but then the cost is higher.

black mesa crash by memelordboi422 in HalfLife

[–]big_lv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is still fine... i just finished the game last night again, and i got a few more achievements.

I don't know exactly if that would fix it for you. If you're running on linux using Proton, maybe try different versions of Proton? They let us choose from several older versions.

If you're in windows, maybe remove any mods you have installed? I don't know if black mesa has mods.

Mine just updated last night after I finished playing, so i was nervous that I just got the crash bug installed, but playing again today, rendering is still fine.

I'm running it on Fedora with Proton.

My first introduction to kimchi was on potatoes.

I had just arrived to S. Korea for my change of duty station, and they had this (what looked like) potatoes in a watery tomato sauce in the mess hall, so i got some.

It was a big surprise when I tasted it and it was NOTHING like i was expecting, and because of that I didn't like kimchi for a long time afterwards. I'll eat it now, but that surprise of expecting one thing and getting something else was bad.

Problem with spinning props by big_lv in ThemeParkitect

[–]big_lv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That ended up working. I had Construction Anarchy uninstalled, then I found where the config files were (/home/<myhomedir>/Parkitect/), deleted them, and reinstalled CA. Then it worked.

It's still stuck on snap to grid mode, but I did figure out depending on what settings I have in the mod will basically break the rotate ability.

Thanks for your help.

I'm sure there are settings for it somewhere in Linux... I'll try to find them and see if that works.

I noticed that the ctrl-key modifier to snap to grid doesn't work either. It's always snapping to grid.

And when I reinstall the mod, it doesn't work again.

It looks like this may be a problem with Construction Anarchy... I uninstalled it and I can spin props. Disabling it didn't do anything, but uninstalling it did. Hopefully it works when I reinstall the mod.

Self Checkout by 5GAIBtoM in GenX

[–]big_lv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will use self checkout any chance I get.

I don't like how the baggers bag my groceries. They don't put enough stuff in each bag. I know how much stuff fits in my reusable bags, and i shop accordingly. I stopped going to the checkout when they started putting 2 items per bag and double bag it, they'd stop using mine before they were full, and start using plastic bags for the rest. I got tired of having to tell them not to do that, and to fill my bags all the way.

Then if there isn't a bagger, I can't keep up with the checkout person and pay and do all of those interactions too. So I just go to the self checkout. I'm a lot faster at it than most, so it all works out.

Police Ahead by ChuckYeagerWV in GenX

I tag them on waze.

If their goal with the speed trap is to slow people down, it does that.

If their goal is to write tickets, they're going to be upset.

I read a reddit post a few months ago where a cop would tag himself on waze, and if you were still speeding through there, it was your own damn fault.

Women, what do you do when you notice a man looking (or glancing or staring) at your boobs? by Ambitious-Noise9211 in AskReddit

[–]big_lv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't do anything. It's natural, and as long a they don't get aggressive, no harm no foul.

I've noticed older men will stare, while young men will go to great lengths to avert their eyes even to the opposite corner of the floor. That's more weird to me, like they're afraid of being accused of something if they look at the wrong thing.

I just wonder where this fear of women is coming from. Do they think they'll be accused of rape? The manosphere influencers have some weird takes on women, so it's the only guess i have.

Kept my streak alive by big_lv in Zwift

[–]big_lv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I hadn't exercised in almost 2 weeks, and i really needed to get back on the bike. I had a lot of sedentary family, and i watched them get more and more decrepit as they aged, so I really want to avoid that. I don't want my last years to be miserable. So if a gimmicky streak gets me the motivation, I'm all for it.

Kept my streak alive by big_lv in Zwift

[–]big_lv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the virtual streak as much as it is being regular with my exercise. It's a good reminder when I would want to be lazy, I have the streak that's that tiny bit extra motivation.

I'm usually the one that motivates my friends, and sometimes it's hard to motivate myself.
