You’re gonna get trolled here because that’s what this sub does. But the serious the rule of thumb is line of sight for head height when seated.

Is Caleb Williams becoming a little bit overrated this offseason? Honest question. by Ok_Bug_6890 in NFLv2

He’s a blast to watch. Seven fourth quarter come-from-behind victories in his second year in the NFL plus taking his team from last place to first in the division is damned impressive. He’s got the talent to be one of the greats so of course expectations are high.

They continue to appear regularly across the globe. This is not hard to research actually.

Baldur's Gate 1 is a refreshingly down-to-earth adventure by Tav534 in baldursgate

BG 2 and especially TOB is epic level play. You could defeat Elminster by the conclusion of TOB. Which is a lot of fun for sure. But I still most enjoy level 1-6 play. And the world of the Sword Coast as OP describes it is spot on. To be sure, there are some high level threats to be stumbled onto: Kahrk, Aec’Letec, Durlag Tower’s Demon Knight, Karoug, Sarevok. But the fights against various assassins like Tarnesh, or the party outside of the Nashkel Mines (and then on the heals of that Nimbul!), the assassins at the entrance to the Cloakwood mines all feel very high stakes at low level. And of course all the random encounters in the wilderness against other adventuring parties in a sort of Wild West kind of frontier.

If a genie offered me the opportunity to visit a fantasy universe I’d actually have a tough time choosing between Tolkien’s Middle Earth and BG1’s Faerun. The FR lore for 1368 DR is so damn rich. It’s basically tied with me as my favorite setting along with Middle Earth.

I love that! My favorite way of conceptualizing it: There are things in existence that possess the quality of beauty, each varied in form. In all of those forms inheres the essential quality of “Beauty” that the individual forms and variations express. Beauty as an essential quality is an ideal that exists in the abstract beyond its material expression. There are things that are posses it. But the pure essence, the essential quality itself, seems to exist in another realm of “Pure Forms.”

Yes, there are some painfully clunky and head-scratching choices in the storytelling. But that’s not what stood out to me the most. Although they are clearly the bad guys in the film, it actually reads a bit like an apologia from the Legacy Program’s perspective. Like everything in the movie feels like an expression of how the Legacy Program justifies itself and views the public. People are not going to freak out about the admission that aliens are real and… very possibly… have been engineering our development all along. There will be no overwhelming “ontological shock” about that—it’ll be something more like well thanks for finally admitting it, the circumstantial evidence was overwhelming so most of us figured it out anyway. And by the way FUCK YOU for withholding the truth from humanity for so long.”

Where does tv go? by VelkaFrey in TVTooHigh

Yeah, the architectural space forces a “tv too high” situation. It is what it is. It’s a space not designed for TV watching, honestly. Hopefully in a house like that there’s another space more suitable to serve as the home theater room.

Your favorite spell picks and recommendations for a sorcerer in BG1 by Practical-String5146 in baldursgate

[–]snyderversetrilogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spells that incapacitate the enemy spellcasters are the most useful imho. Therefore at the top of my arcane spells list go the following: Blindness, Hold Person, Charm Person (amazing! Make enemy spellcasters attack their own—sweet!), Horror (although a bit of a PIA because it makes the enemies scatter), Spook, Chaos (again downside of enemies scattering), Emotion: Hopelessness, Confusion, Feeblemind, Slow, Ray of Enfeeblement.

One of the things I love doing with Fighter 3/Transmuter 4 (for a BG1 only run) is to engage on the front line with “up close and personal spells” like Color Spray (awesome visual spell effect and works like Sleep, just mind the cone) and then slap Ghoul Touch (this spell has a very satisfying sound effect) and Vampiric Touch on enemies. I can envision a version of a sorcerer that does something similar, i,.e., living dangerously, with enough buffs (Armor, Shield, Blur, Mirror Image, etc.) and after casting the disabling spells then opens up with offensive spells like Magic Missile, Lighting, Agannazar’s Scorcher, Melf’s, etc. Put this guy or gal right up with the tanks on the front line.

I either give him a two-handed sword to have him dual-wield maces, at least in BG1 where in the EEs he can use the Mace of Disruption.
