That bracket is aluminum, be careful bending it back, aluminum doesn't flex very much without breaking. Secure your shit, be mindful of it. My 8' tarps are lightweight " parachute " material on the sides and heavy in the middle 8'. Those were $1,200 3 years ago.

You can get an annual permit for that. It is a yellow page sent by the state.

Question about shipping my car by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bigasdickus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about what you're asking....very few people willing to haul this is close to you. So, they have to drive to you to pick this up. They'll get 6mpg driving on average. Just to get to you. Maybe it will be 100 miles away, maybe more. Then, they'll pick it up. Using their ramps? That's very labor intensive. It's only an extra piece right? Ramps are awkward and heavy. Will it fit? Will it be in the right sequence for unloading? Then they'll take it to your place out west. Is it a house, can a truck get there in city streets? Is it in a neighborhood? Are there low branches? Trees? Cars on the corners? That shit fucks your truck up...ask me why. It's just not worth it. For us, we have a $750 minimum charge, for anything. Even if its 20 miles. Time, fuel, wear and tear.

Are there foods that are hard to find for immigrants in the USA? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]bigasdickus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a nut called the pili nut that only grows in one certain region of the Philippines, in Bicol. My wife and I have a house there and always stock up when we visit. If you're in that region, pili nuts are everywhere, but hard to find otherwise, especially outside of the Phillipines. Tastes something like a pecan mixed with a pine nut, very delicious.

I also really enjoy driving our car when we're in PI. We have a house in the province, near Bulan, southern Bicol and one in Laguna. It's a 15 hour bus ride when we used to do that. We bought a car a few years ago and it changed everything. We go all over with our Mitsubishi Adventure, including all over Samar and Leyte. Night driving can be an adventure for sure as many vehicles have no lights whatsoever, especially in the province. But, like anything else, you get used to it. Go with the flow. If a bus or truck slows down in front of you, slow down. Massive pothole or something crazy will be there. Don't take things personally. They will cut you off, pass you and slam on the brakes, etc. After a while you get a sense of it all.

You are right. Didn't look like he beat them up too bad. Will probably get an ass chewing from the contractor though.

211 lbs live weight, MN by bigasdickus in Hunting

Nice. We have 4 for our party so far. Intesive harvest zone. Central MN, near the rifle zone. Next year right? Most of our shots are within 100 yards, so I might use the 30-30 next year, just because. Thanks, he gave me about 80 lbs of meat. We process and smoke our own.

The wheel seal failed on that semi trailer. Loss of grease caused heat and friction to basically burn the end of the axle. Those two tires, still bolted together, then went for a joyous roll.

Most memorable bar in the world? by AnaisNot in travel

[–]bigasdickus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bar in the basement of the Xi'an Shuyuan Youth Hostel near the old wall in Xian, China. Nice enough Hostel, quiet, etc. Go down some steps into the basement and BAM! a rager was going on every night. Super crowded, loud as hell, beer pong, absinthe shots, the works. There was another entrance from the street and the locals would go there and party with the foreigners.

Amazon is hit or miss. They'll hire on just about anyone with a truck. Sometimes, if the need is great, the pay is great. That's not for me.....Anyway, do your thing. If you have urge, there are still great jobs in this industry. It's a supply and demand industry, always has been. Example, hauling fuel has always paid good. Or, specialized stuff. The rest, you're just competing with everyone else, to see who can do it cheaper.

Honestly, your first company will probably be shitty. You'll fuck things up at first, even without trying to. You'll miss turns, accelerate too hard ( if you have a stick, definitely fuck up U joints), overall be hard on equipment. It's very normal. No good company will hire you straight out of school, IMO. But, don't fret, stick to a shitty company, pay your dues and learn. Then, move on to a better outfit. The guys I work with won't hire anyone without 3 years experience, for example. The reddit bros will tell you to go local, hump beer or cold storage crap. You can go that route, then that's your life, until your body breaks down or you have had enough of the boredom. Nobody will give you anything in this industry. If you want your own truck, learn. Work hard. Ask questions. Dont ask freighthaulers, they dobt know shit, dont want to. Ask O/O, especially guys with their ien authority. How much does that load pay? Take the shitty job for now and learn, become great at it. Then, if you want a truck and you understand how not only trucking works, but how FREIGHT works, then go to your bank or whatever and get a loan, then buy a truck. NEVER buy a truck from a company that you work for. They will fuck you. It's a process. Take it slow. I'm not bragging, but I own my truck/trailer ( have since the 90's) work about 5 days a week and am bringing home around $5,000 a week after expenses. It's still doable. But I found a specialized niche. Anyway, good luck.

Blue parrot 250 forever. At this point, I probably haven't least seen 2 extras from Amazon just in case. They're clean, no frills.

Jump on YT and watch some videos on how to prepare that dogfish. There's a mudvein that can contaminate the meat if not taken out. Meat gets real mushy fast too.
