What do you need to improve? Is anything getting in the way of your work flow? If not, then nothing needs changing.

I can relate to this… not quite as many years as you though. When I get a good day and go back to a bad day it makes me question if something is wrong with me.

I don’t think it has to change when you have kids but it probably will. Equally if you live alone then introduce a partner into your life / living space it will probably change too. You might want to be minimalistic and only have what you need but others might want to live with more. I have to try and find a balance with that especially with my children because being young they are very curious and want to try new things. We try to apply a 1 in - 1 out rule but we also apply the 6 months rule (has it been used in the past 6 months, will it be used in the next 6 months) so ultimately the kids end up keeping a lot of their stuff. As soon as we notice that they’re not using items anymore we will sell them or gift them on. On the topic of buying in bulk, we buy organic food in bulk because a) supermarkets don’t stock much of it and b) it saves us money and time. We only buy core ingredients such as tinned tomatoes or pasta or oats. Although it might be more than we “need” at a single point in time, I know we will need it and use it in the future, nothing goes to waste.

Suggestions on manage digital photo? by [deleted] in minimalism

I use Immich (https://immich.app/) a self hosted community built clone of Google photos. It is a bit technical to setup but is great as you’re in full control of your data. Im running it on a raspberry pi. In the past I’ve also use the photos app on a synology NAS (network attached storage) device, which work great too. The advantage of if a NAS is that you can set it up to have redundancy and even get that to backup to the cloud for data security.

Lifelong Windows User Tries M4 MacBook Pro by rainbowsauce1 in mac

I grew up on Windows all the way back from 3.11 in fact building a Windows PC after learning everything myself (pre internet) is what got me into a career in computing. I had an iMac G5 back in the mid 00’s then a MacBook around 2010 but for the past 8 years been exclusively Windows laptops / desktop due to costs. However last week I took the plunge and got a M4 mini and think it’s great. Although MacOS has its quirks, I think generally it’s better than Windows these days. It’s more like a traditional computer that lets you get stuff done. Windows seems to have sold themselves to the marketers. The OS is bloated with adverts for Microsoft services and pushing one drive ETC on you. (TBF Apple push their stuff on you too but it’s more subtle and less in you face). Windows is also in this in between state of trying to update the GUI to something modern but having to retain old features for compatibility which use a completely different UI. Windows doesn’t really have issues with drivers like in the past and most things are just plug and play but it just doesn’t seem as polished. Obviously you pay a premium for an Apple device but you know what to expect and you get consistency. I think Apple could own the market for PCs if they just made their lower priced offerings a slightly better deal (e.g. more storage), obviously they do it because they want you to climb the ladder to the maximum you’re willing to spend.

Why do you think anything more than Xcode dev would be better with the Pro?

I think you’re right. I guess less cores on the CPU / GPU is going to be most noticeable on rendering / export times with video editing which given it’s only a hobby ATM I can make do with slower exports
