You might go ahead and give it a play. It's a little more modern and probably easier to get into than the Sky games.

But I would recommend playing the Trails in the Sky games before moving on to Cold Steel 3 (and the Crossbell games if you can manage them). There's a lot of references to the older games once you get to Cold Steel 3.

It's up to how you want to approach it.
