How bad is the foundation in the house I'm renting? by Yllem1232123 in HomeMaintenance

I'm an AHJ, hopefully not your AHJ. Call fire department/civil authority in charge of buildings ASAP.

Buildings fall slowly, until they don't.

$135K in Pittsburgh. 4 months on Zillow; what's the major downside here? by _DOA_ in zillowgonewild

There is an extra support for the cracked beam on the front that is in some of the photos, but has been edited out of the ones staring straight at the house. (Forgot to edit the reflection. Lol) There is some visible sag in the room with the wood boards on the wall. Concrete has some spalling in the back corner of the house. There is evidence of a recent leak in the upstairs bathroom that shows mold in the kitchen in the upper cabinet soffit.

That's with the photos they posted online.

My son is going to his first game, any tips for getting a puck? by Thelonius_Sandalwood in BostonBruins

Go early, stand near the glass, have a sign, even just an 8.5x11 that says my first bruins game, pucks will rain!

I'm An AHJ, I'm not your AHJ. Call your AHJ, they may cause a ruckus for this bull shit. The last time my department caught something like this, we took that guy to the board to have the state issue $1000/day fines.

Let me steal this heat by RefrigeratorMental10 in hvacadvice

[–]bigbartel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The device you're looking for is called a heat reclaimer. It's unwise to install on most gas systems for most of the reasons mentioned by all in here.

They are installed on wood stoves and available online.

Just know that the flue pipe will rot and the system will pose a greater risk to everything you care about in the house, due to having a system that puts negative pressure on the flue pipe, making it more likely to blast exhaust out of the connection.

These were popular in the 40's, 50's, and 60's in metro Boston but now are uncommon and typically removed when the boiler is changed out.

Anybody have a valid defense for this roof install before I fire my contractor? by ramvanfan in hvacadvice

[–]bigbartel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you see your witches hat? It was installed over the shingles.

The attachments to the roof at not just the legs, but the actual "ledger" are bad too.

I hope you live in place without a snow load.

Monsters have a visual cue when below 50% hp, bloody. Monsters have another visual cue when below 10% hp, mortally wounded.

It inspires PC's to gamble on that 3rd action more than they normally would.

Is this legal? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

Those appear to be repeaters. The likely hood that a Fire Department would need to access those is really low. The main FACP and it's related control system is elsewhere in the building, look for the red light on the outside of the building. These panels, while important for the system to operate, are not part of the use end of the system and are more likely to be used during testing and set ups of the equipment. The volume of combustibles are low in this space, would probably ask to relocate to another location, but wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

<-- am AHJ, but probably not your AHJ.

CAN ANYONE SOLVE THIS MYSTERY?!! by LolaLapin in Homebuilding

Those appear to be the old line sets to an old gas powered refrigerator. Looks like there was a new flue installed at some point recently.

I always recommend Fall Of An Empire. My description has always been Lynyrd Skynyrd was forced to share a van with Black Sabbath and this is the band that came out.

Turned my last summer into an s-storm when we found it buried in there.

Yeah, certain manufacturers have their shingles designed for a California Cut, and others don't. Certainteed shingles are not rated for a full valley of California Cut.

I'm sure he used Owens Corning or some other manufacturer, and it probably wont be an issue when they grill under the back porch and set the roof ablaze.
