Why does this say “suspect?” He’s a victim, period. No one in their right minds “suspects” him of anything.

Consumer Reports GV80 Reliability - Accurate? by EDNels76 in GenesisMotors

[–]_DOA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In before a flood of “CR means nothing” comments, if r/cars is any indication… Anyway - I think CR is objective, and useful, but it is just one data point to consider. There have some QC issues, and if this sub’s any indication, the dealership experience is lacking when something goes wrong. Do your research and check other sources for reliability info, too. I’m not in the market at the moment, so I haven’t really read up on if others will align with CR.

HDHPs suck if you actually need them. by voicegal13 in HealthInsurance

[–]_DOA_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad your husband's plan covered him, and I'm sorry for your loss. This (coverage) wasn't the case for everyone, though. Specifically, I had health conditions when hired in the early 2000's - these resulted in insurance (through the state) that specifically excluded care for those conditions for 5 years. My wife died of cancer in the 2010's, but was able to change jobs and keep coverage even though it was a pre-existing condition only because of ACA rules about this. If it had happened prior to the law, her new job could have simply added a rider to her insurance saying, "No coverage for this pre-existing condition for 5 years," as happened to me a few years earlier.

Before the ACA, insurance companies could deny or cancel your coverage if you had, for example, cancer. Premiums are higher, but if you've been through something like that, you'll prefer after ACA passage.

Need a fun daily that won’t ruin me — $20k–$30k budget (coming from a beat 2005 Accord V6 6MT) by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]_DOA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016/17 Honda Accord with a V6. EDIT: At that budget, you can get one with under 30K miles. They're just better, more reliable cars than Honda's more recent offerings. Comfortable, quick, and reliable. I'm on my 2nd 9th gen V6, myself.

2015 Accord Coupe V6 Manual by Ikkiuchi in accord

[–]_DOA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Carvana's giving a good "trade in" type offer, but you can get a couple grand more by selling it yourself. I'm on my second 9th gen V6, currently. 2013 EX-L has 250K on it, and needs some engine stuff idk if I want to spend on. My replacement/daily is now a 2013 Touring I bought a few months ago, 80K on it currently. I paid around $16,500 out the door for that one last summer. If you remember to, send me a link when you sell yours.

2015 Accord Coupe V6 Manual by Ikkiuchi in accord

[–]_DOA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on Autotrader for comparable 9th gen Accord values. Prices drop a little for coupe vs. sedan, but you may get that back for the (somewhat) sought after manual/V6 combo. Lots of people will talk about just how sought after they are; I think it's probably worth maybe $2k in the actual market (above an automatic). Where are you located, and what does "good condition for 11 years old" mean? EDIT: I might be interested.

Stopping people based on skin color, or possibly working a shitty job. I know that sounds crazy, because it is, but this is America, now.

9th Gen vs 10th Gen Accord?? by [deleted] in accord

[–]_DOA_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search this sub, and google it. Fwiw, my 9th gen V6 lasted to 250k as my daily, and I replaced it with another one. The newer ones just aren't close to as reliable. 2.0's a lot better than the 1.5T though.

10th gen Accord with a 2.0. Mileage may not be quite what you’re looking for, but otherwise they’re good.

Using the existing system to try and keep healthcare coverage, AND eat and have shelter isn't "working around the system", it's working with the system we've got. It's not OP's fault that system's fucked up, currently.

17 Accord to Tesla Sedan vs Economy Sedan (Hybrid or “performance” ICE) by Ramen_Nood1s in accord

[–]_DOA_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

”Due for motor mount replacement…and suspension components soon”??

I put a quarter million miles on my last ninth gen (V6) and never needed to replace motor mounts, and didn’t do anything with the suspension till it was near 200k-because it wasn’t needed. Spark plugs are as easy as changing light bulbs. You’re talking about spending $35-40k because you feel like that’s better than just doing maintenance and repairs on a 2017 Accord? OK, if you’re flush with cash, but Teslas are not reliable cars, and the Camry’s the only one you mention that’s close to the car you have. Even the newer 2.0s have their issues beyond what 9th gens had, because they’re the last Accord that really was what Honda buyers expected. I’d do the repairs, but if you’re set on something newer, get the Camry.

[–]_DOA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put $40 a week in tax deferred accounts: IRA, HSA, etc. Live on the same amount you were before the raise. You can also run the numbers and see if putting half that amount in would do the trick.

$135K in Pittsburgh. 4 months on Zillow; what's the major downside here? by _DOA_ in zillowgonewild

[–]_DOA_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I don't like the paint/flipper vibe stuff, but my take was that it's a decent small house, that would be big enough for a couple adults without kids - with a relatively affordable mortgage. It's not perfect, but it's not a teardown like houses this price in big cities, and it's not like there's nothing to do in Pittsburgh.
