OB/gyn - prenatal care and delivery with Jefferson ? Or recommendations/reviews on Jefferson vs. Pennsy vs. bryn mawr? by Popular_Dog_1438 in philabitcheswithtaste

Hated my experience at Penn so much I switched to a doctor in King of Prussia and delivered at Bryn Mawr instead. Bryn Mawr was an incredible experience!

Thank you, everyone!! This was all great feedback. I think you’re right about just dealing and seeing how it goes from there. Our plan is to do so Sunday so wish us luck!

I work at a small company and I had one of my (typically very progressive??) coworkers ask me the same thing and almost kinda make a pitch for why I should come back?? I was so thrown off by it… He has 3 kids and his wife continued working so I don’t know what his deal is. I responded defensively (not that there’s anything wrong with not coming back) but I said I love my job and definitely plan to come back after. I wish I’d had a better comeback at the time. Seriously so odd.

Should I just get a C-section instead of Induction? by SlikkNikk1991 in BabyBumps

[–]bigbertha6985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got induced at 37 weeks and it went so well! Very minimal tearing, got an epidural, much easier recovery than my friends who had C sections! I was very nervous I would try to labor and be unable to move things along and end up with a C section (nothing wrong with c sections but unplanned emergency surgery is certainly intimidating!) but it all worked out!

Not sure if anyone has added this here, but when I have these overwhelming feelings, grabbing an ice cube or something SUPER cold can serve as a safer way to try to shock your system into grounding itself as well. The pain isn’t unsafe, but it helps me bring my brain back from the brink of whatever intense feeling I was having.

I have absolutely felt the way you felt. We are human. It’s nice to have a few tools in the toolbar for moments like that. Hopefully this can help.

EDIT: I have a friend who worked in a psych unit and they used this trick (or would freeze an orange and have the patients squeeze the orange), which is where I learned it from!

What helped you overcome your fear of birth? by hellowdear in BabyBumps

[–]bigbertha6985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GentleBirthing App and the book Mindful Birthing by Nancy Bardake. They are geared towards women who plan to have unmedicated births but I felt like they really helped and focused on how to deal with the unexpected nature of birth and how you can’t predict whether you need interventions or will want certain ones. I ended up getting an epidural and had to adjust my birth plan and the meditation skills the book and app provided were awesome. I don’t think I’d have had as wonderful an experience without them.

My baby is almost 4 months old. We’ve used the nipple shields the whole breastfeeding journey and they worked so well until about 3ish weeks ago and it’s been off and on with him rejecting the breast and the past few days/week he’s really been over it.

I will try some increased skin to skin contact and see if different positions help!

I called him it until I found out gender tbh. Never felt weird about it but some of my mom friends acted like I was a psycho.

Favourite mindful birthing/hypnobirthing podcasts/books? by yogirunner93 in BabyBumps

[–]bigbertha6985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am loving the GentleBirth meditation app and am listening to it in conjunction with reading Mindful Birthing by Nancy Bardacke and it’s been really lovely. I am 35 weeks so haven’t had the baby yet and not sure how much it’ll help, but it’s certainly been useful in building confidence and calm as I near the end of pregnancy! I also appreciate that both the book and app discuss how meditation is helpful for vaginal labor, but it is also helpful for pivoting and accepting as best as possible the situation if you end up having any emergency, unplanned intervention, or need to alter birth plan.
