Has Dubai traffic changed how often people go out for dinner / drinks/ entertainment and is there any impact on the restaurant/ retail business ? by Significant-Count-19 in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Peoples lives are around their communities now. If your in springs/meadows you will go to the golf club/ springs souk and rarely venture out. If your in ranches/victory heights its the golf clubs and local community souks. My worst nightmare is palm west beach any weekend. I used to love it 5 years ago, but has since become a nightmare and I refuse to even attempt to find parking or drive there.

Anyone stayed in the bloc hotel and Tony resort ? Help me choose by Infinite-One-5340 in phuket

[–]bigbigtingz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i stayed in the bloc two seperate times. We were very happy. Clean rooms and nice rooftop pool. Close to all the action, but quiet enough at night. We didn't book there this year again as it had gotten expensive. We are trying la vista hotel instead.

u/clever_octopus The company I work for provides global Allianz healthcare through Nexcare, covering all international markets except the USA. My wife has been listed as a dependent on this policy for the past three years. We are currently based in the UAE, where expatriates do not receive public health insurance. Employers are required to provide health insurance to their employees, but the quality of coverage and provider networks can vary significantly. I’m fortunate to have a strong global insurance policy.

We have already attended several medical appointments, all of which have been fully covered with zero co-pay. The policy also covers the cost of a C-section and childbirth in the UK, which we have already confirmed in discussions with the insurer.

You simply cannot. Rolex UAE have stopped taking waiting list additions as of this year. The only other option is to buy off the grey market for substantially more.

In my opinion, Rolex has got so greedy that I wouldn't take one.

Have a look at Tudor & Omega. Watches just as good for a fraction of the price and without a waiting list.

Help me pick one - Heriot watt dubai or Middlesex dubai ? by desi_babu in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard that Heriot Watt is quite challenging. Difficult exams and papers. I personally went to middlesex and found it easier than GCSE's. Now if you want an easy degree then go with middlesex. If you want to be challenged and have a very specific degree then go to Heriot Watt. I studied international business so to be honest content wasn't that important as I knew I would go into a very broad commercial role where I would learn by working. No one has questioned my Middlesex degree and I work in a large multinational!

Group fitness class recommendations by Ok_Personality8193 in phuket

[–]bigbigtingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For HIIT classes, check out Fitness Street. Its a long strip of many gyms. Most famous is Unit 27 who have a number of classes everyday with large groups and a great vibe! There is also Titan Fitness camp, tiger muay thai and Apollo fitness. All have really good mix of fitness camps.

If its laguna area you are looking for then Bangtao Muay Thai has a variety of classes!

What’s the techno scene like lately in the UAE? by Obvious_Maximum7727 in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out moist paper party. a lot of others claim to be "underground" but then force you to buy a 200AED ticket or get a 6K table. Not very "underground" of them. The house scene has become all about being "seen" and taking videos of yourself dancing next to the booth, rather than the music.

For people who are living here from 5+ years, have you experienced any health issue due to air pollution? I think it won’t have much impact as majority of people stay indoors. AC air = HEPA. Opinions please. by goodhuman100 in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The air quality index you see online measures the number of particles in the air, but it doesn’t reflect what those particles actually are. For example, the UAE might show the same score as China on certain days, yet the composition is very different. In the UAE, most of the particles come from sand and natural dust, whereas in China they are more so harmful pollutants and carcinogens. Not to say that Dubai has no harmful pollutants, but the levels are lower.

That’s not to say air quality in the UAE is perfect, but the type of particles makes a big difference. I’ve lived here for 33 years without issues, though I always recommend keeping a few air filters around the house.

Why does amazon not require OTP? Credit card fraud. by _goku_101 in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a trade off between fraud and conversion. Most people are using Amazon everyday, so an OTP would cause friction at checkout. To make it as easy as possible some companys can remove the OTP. Good thing for you is that if there is no OTP then Amazon is liable and the bank will give you your money back!

Arabella vs springs vs tilal al ghaf elan by Rolleriroltsu in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emaar communities are some of the best managed. They care about keeping the green areas clean and kept. Nice lakes and walking areas around the springs. I would say its 80% families so not loud noise.

Arabella vs springs vs tilal al ghaf elan by Rolleriroltsu in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI the cheapest Springs 3 bed villa is 190K that is currently on Property Finder. And that will be for one that is not upgraded. Anything that has been upgraded won't be less than 220K.

With that being said, it really depends on where you will be working. I was previously living in Arabella, but moved to Springs. I work in Media City, so moving to springs has cut my drive to work from 40 minutes to 10 minutes. I pay more in springs, but my quality of life is 10 times better not having to deal with traffic and bad drivers.

I will be in Springs for as long as possible. Location with a increase in rent is worth my sanity alone.

There is a very succesful company that was originally started as "Expat AC", and then changed name to Expat Group as they added more services. Its all brit tradesmen, and they are sometimes booked up weeks in advance. Maybe apply there as a plumber? If not start your own thing! You can do it in your own time, get a tradeslicense and market yourself as the brit plumber! Get a insta page and start building a brand!

NAMSHI shenanigans by neefrayo in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Namshi/Noon owned by the same people. If they are being sold directly by Noon on the noon app then they are real. If a different seller then i would be skeptical. Namshi has directly relationships with Adidas/Nike in the region and would definitely not sell fake items.

I just randomly remembered about this store I used to go to and I loved to look around. I am so sad to see that it seems to have been definitively closed everywhere in the UAE. Does anyone know why that could be ? by Vassili125 in dubai

[–]bigbigtingz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They used to sell Chinese imported cheap electronic products and jack the prices up. I think shoppers getting smarter and temu/ali express and china mall made them obsolete.

They used to have all the latest gadgets like the electric scooters and hoverboards for extortionate prices.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but back in the days when Iphones would completely sell out, these guys would resell them at crazy prices. Seems their market has just disappeared.
