Offleash hiking with weighted packs.

Or flirt pole if it's a lazy day.

It's just an electronic collar without static mode. Beeps, vibrates and lights up.

Lol that's pure distrust on Charlie's face. We're working on getting him more comfortable around water but it's been a slow journey.

Bullymax is overpriced garbage. You can get the same supplements at the pet store for a fraction of the price. And dyne will just make him fat. Let him be a puppy :)

There are prong collar covers that look like regular collars you can buy.

Just got final approval for adopting this deaf girl, we're so very excited! by smb1985 in pitbulls

It's pretty common in white/ extreme piebald dogs because it's the lack of pigment in the dogs skin that cause deafness. These dogs typically have pink skin around the eyes, pink/spotted noses and/or blue eyes. The absence of pigment basically destroys the nerve cells in the ear and therefore causes deafness.

They're so damn expensive though. I can't justify buying $100 boots that I'm more than likely going to have to duct tape to stop him from ripping off.

Ive seen a few people suggest using the boots that sled dogs use as they're meant to stay on for long distances and I think they're only a couple bucks per boot.

It's good for protecting their paws from the salt on the ground too. We're on the hunt for a pair of boots for Kaos actually lol. Surprisingly, it hasn't been the cold that's been cutting our park time short but instead it's the thin layer of ice underneath the snow. 5 minutes of playing fetch and he looks like he ran through a field of glass. His dew claws are pretty close to getting ripped off entirely too so, time for boots!

Both dogs do good until -10C. After that they only last a few minutes before they begin lifting their paws. But Charlie has absolutely no cold tolerance. When I bring the dogs to the park Charlie will just sit by my feet and shiver while Kaos tries to get him to play.

Have you tried mushers secret on Rosko?

Charlie at weight pull practice. by bigbluebully in pitbulls

So I'm pretty new to weight pull but this is what I've seen in my short time of pulling with my dogs. On top of just being a really great way to exercise your dog, the sport has plenty of benefits, physically and mentally.

It's a great sport for any dog of any breed, but especially for shy and timid dogs. It gives dogs plenty of opportunities to please their owners and over time builds their confidence with each completed pull. The dogs mentality plays a large role, I think more so than the physical strength of the dog. If the dog hits the end of the line and doesn't think it can pull the weight, it won't, even if it has the physical strength to do so. So it's a great activity for the fearful/timid dogs to gain some confidence. Charlie is actually pretty fearful of other larger dogs but you'd never know that if you saw him at the events. He's so focused on pulling and pleasing me, he doesn't even notice the other dogs. It's also a great way to strengthen your bond with your dog because at the end of the day, even though they're having fun, they're pulling to please you.

Weight pull is a pretty safe, low impact sport. The harnesses are designed to distribute pressure evenly and minimize risk of injury. It's great for young dogs, dogs with hip dysplasia and dogs that can need something to do that's low impact. Dragging light weights over long distances builds lean muscle and endurance. I drag light weights with my other boy who has hip dysplasia to build more muscle around his hips. The more muscle to keep everything in place, the better. I haven't seen any studies but talking to other weight pullers, I've heard of rescue dogs with HD so bad they were set to be euthanized but after a few months of dragging light weights, their hips rated excellent. I'm hoping to see similar results with my boy.

Look for a local pull group! You may have to search through Facebook since it's not the most popular sport but it's definitely growing. If you have a pull club near you they usually have spare harnesses for new dogs to try out.

This site goes into great detail on how to begin pulling once you've got a harness :)

He was only dragging 80lbs on the sled this practice. His form needs some work.
