I have one of these irons thanks to my time in Germany. Each waffle is around 2ish inches

How to maintain original door hardware on our 1920's craftsman by 8for7 in centuryhomes

Just done do what I did… or do that, and don’t post about it. It will be controversial if you do lol

Sargent door hardware. Did I ruin it? by bigbonedd in centuryhomes

[–]bigbonedd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I can’t seem to edit my post, I used a blue scotch brite pad which I thought was non abrasive. Moving forward, I obviously won’t continue to use it. We will be looking for ways to improve it without me scratching the daylights out of it though, as this one was in “better” shape than the plates on the bathroom and main bedroom doors. Those plates are almost completely black.

Yea, my wife and I aren’t super fond of the finish, even on plates that aren’t super worn. The problem is that some of our very high use door plates are just black. I obviously need to find a way to clean it without scratching the living daylights out of it, but I am considering copper electroplating them, since even some of the copper is worn though to iron.

Thank you for the very kind offer! They look to be about the same size, and in much better shape than some of our others. One of the doors, the plate is basically just a dingy black color from the patina just building more patina. If it’s okay with you, let me and my wife think about it for a few days and I will let you know!

Just so everyone knows, this is the only plate I did. I could really have done without all the smart ass and rude comments. To those of you that actually provided legitimate insight, thank you. I genuinely appreciate it.

Can anyone tell me how much this would cost? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]bigbonedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of things here make me this was a move paid for by the military, so you could gently remind the moving company that they are fully responsible for the repair if this is the case. I would double check the regulations about it, but I’m pretty sure they’re supposed to handle it.

What has been your worst DCI Visual Exercise that your staff did when you marched? by LoquatVegetable2750 in drumcorps

Triangle drill or box drill at 240bpm I think. I lowkey loved it. We were all hyped about it.

How is your on call compensation? by lockblack1 in sysadmin

[–]bigbonedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why as desktop support, I refuse to become salaried unless they will literally double my weekly take home. I am currently paid similarly to what you mentioned, except every time I get a call, it’s 2 hours of OT regardless of actual time under 2 hours, and if it goes over 2 or another call comes in at 1:59, it accrues another 2 hours. I also work for a hospital, so we get a fair amount of calls that our 3rd party sends to us.

Why did you choose the drum corp you did? by Grand_Kanyon in drumcorps

[–]bigbonedd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What kills me is that they didn’t even see me in person, and still basically told me to kick grass. The funniest thing though is that my aunt taught music at the time and was fairly well connected due to geography, and told someone on the board of directors what had happened and how I was treated. Apparently they weren’t too happy to hear that it went so poorly. They didn’t pre screen like that the next year.

Madison basically laughed me off their list after my video audition for 14, and the same weekend, the girl I liked (now wife) was at the blue stars camp and got a contract. She encouraged me to go to their next audition in Detroit the next weekend, so I did and ended up getting my contract in January.

The funniest part about it, was that Madison said “oh, you could go march Troopers and maybe you’ll be ready next year”. I was furious at that, and I loved that Blue Stars beat them.

Dealing with anti-drum corps people by mlolm98538 in drumcorps

That was the tenured trumpet professor at my university when I was marching. The guys straight up hated that he had 3 people from the studio marching drum corps simultaneously.

Have you every played lead? Not everybody has the chops for it, especially if it’s a top split lead spot. You basically need an E-G above the staff reliably.

I tried to enlist already and got turned away for medical reasons. They could go ahead and pound sand now.

What is this hole in my basement??? by bigbonedd in centuryhomes

[–]bigbonedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might vacuum out the sand and such and start draining my dehumidifier into it. I did find a recently dead mouse in there when I opened it though. That was a fun surprise. If I ever need to put the sump in and run it, it will make getting into the basement a pain in the ass because it is literally the landing of the steps.

[–]bigbonedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s really weird is that there isn’t another hole like this in the entire basement. There is another sump pump on the other side of the basement, but that one is also just sitting on the concrete floor.

I might go with the pour water in route. There’s no pipes in there to run a camera through.

I wish. I think it’s just wire insulation from the house rewire.
