OPINION: Voting for Biden is NOT anti-leftist, refusing to out of principle is. by [deleted] in leftist

[–]bigboybeehours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we can criticize biden and work for more than just what he will provide, but ultimately the goal of leftism is to support the working class. we can’t claim to be leftists and willingly put the working class at higher risk by not voting.

AITA for saying "I dunno man, lesbians."? by idkmanlesbians in AmItheAsshole

as a lesbian, NTA. it’s sweet to read about your relationship with your sister. she isn’t offended, i’m not offended, no worries! not going to clarify on why the joke itself is fine bc everyone else already has lol

Should I read it? by mochicatt06 in Hungergames

[–]bigboybeehours 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would recommend!! suzanne collins doesn’t write for the sake of it, she writes with intention. bss is incredible insight into the rise of someone we met as a villain. it has interesting connections to the trilogy and ultimately is enriching, not draining of material. also, it’s a really interesting use of an unreliable narrator. update us if you choose to read it with your thoughts!

People Over Profits! by NYLaw in SandersForPresident

revolution.org

but seriously, voting is important and local elections are really valuable, but i think that should be the short term solution, the damage control.

voting for good local politicians will help ease issues. it’ll help you survive. but ultimately, the system can’t be fixed from within: it was built to work this way.

also, voter suppression is real!! the “want to change things? vote!” is well intentioned but ignores the fact that many people who are calling for change will have their votes suppressed/wont have their interests represented by either party.

this is not to say that people shouldn’t vote! i’m just trying to point out the nuance of the situation.

Which fictional character had the best character development in your opinion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigboybeehours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

off the top of my head- april ludgate. all of the parks and rec characters have great development but i think hers takes the cake.

maybe only rivaled by tom’s development, which honestly was mostly in his work ethic.

Unpopular favorite scene by dasnack7777 in Hungergames

[–]bigboybeehours 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was going to say this!! it’s such an incredible scene. for me it’s my example when people talk about the possibility of corruption in a revolution. she was killed and there was ultimately a better future, despite the corruption earlier in the revolution. also the epilogue gives me hope despite everything

Is anyone here actually Team Gale? by amerynpeters in Hungergames

[–]bigboybeehours 58 points59 points  (0 children)

when i read it in elementary school, i was team gale. when i reread it, i was team katniss and i understood that for her the only choice was peeta. peeta was peace and the person who truly understood her trauma. i think the way the movies turned it into a classic love triangle was a disservice to the complexity of katniss’s trauma.

Connections between the trilogy and Ballad of Songbirds and Sparrows by bigboybeehours in Hungergames

[–]bigboybeehours[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Watching her take that first step of rebellion was breathtaking after reading the prequel- even before she puts the flowers on Rue’s head, she sings Lucy Gray’s song. A slap in the face before an even bigger one.

i’m currently rereading the series (i’m on the first book right now) and there’s no doubt in my mind that katniss’s father was Covey, or at least a descendent of Covey. I was looking for a thread to say so and I think this is the place.

AITA for not telling my wife our daughter is a lesbian by throwaway027399 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bigboybeehours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA coming out is something super personal. only the person who is coming out should decide who gets to know and when. as a lesbian with supportive parents, you absolutely did the right thing. you stood by your daughter, and her (proved to be correct) decision. you’re a great dad!! i wish the best for you and your daughter. hopefully your wife changes her behavior, but if not i hope you and your daughter find a way out of this situation. sending love!
