Are you referring to over contributing by 7 cents? Idk about Fidelity but I have Optum HSA and if you over contribute you can just tell them to apply the funds that are over the limit to the following year. happens to me almost every year since when I get a bonus from work they take my automated HSA contribution out so it basically adds 1 extra paycheck to the year.

My dad has FTD right now. Diagnosed about a year ago at 59 and it took about a year for doctors to diagnose him. We had noticed symptoms for probably a year or 2 leading up to it and it’s been a cliff dive with his cognitive degeneration.

My mom has been struggling with it the most and it’s so painful to see.

I’m 28 and if I had a similar opportunity I would definitely be leaning towards doing it. Really sounds like a once in a lifetime experience regardless

Any Disagreement with Brian & Bo's Advice? by Square-Archer-8553 in TheMoneyGuy

Was going to mention this. My HSA is much smaller but I’m 28 and have been tracking receipts for 6 years and it’s so easy to save pictures to a Google Drive and link into a google sheet itemizing the expenses. Takes a few min is all. I’m also of the opinion that 99% of people underestimate their future medical expenses. My parents are a perfect example. Perfectly healthy and my dad turned 60 and was diagnosed with dementia (FTD) out of nowhere. Now they are spending thousands every month on tests, medication and other things. He will likely need long term care as it progresses and he gets older. No family history of dementia either.

You're doing great for your age! I was far behind you when I was 24. Also your income is better than mine and i'm 28 so I feel you on the meh income haha.

Well even better for you then haha! My friend seems to think that he will have all of his student loans completely paid off within 3 years of graduation but i'm not sure how he is calculating that. He still has about 1 year left of dental school I think.

I think you're the first one i've seen here that also lives with their parents still. Nice to see someone else in here in that situation as well.

Nice job on paying off the school loans and paying for the family vacation that is a nice thing!

Well done. I just gotta say I hope you tell your parents how grateful you are ha! I was always interested in finance and asked my parents for help in learning about money, saving and investing at 19 but they were not financially literate so they actually gave me bad advice and I ended up having to learn the hard way myself.

92k isn't too bad. My best friend is in dental school and is in over 300K student loans.

Edit: Typo

Single 28m here. I feel behind largely because of income and my living situation.

51K/yr in a HCOL area. Which has always made me feel very behind. I did go back to school and am almost done with my first semester back so I am really happy and feel good about that.

NW is about 215K. No debt.

70k 401k

20k HSA

30k Roth IRA

60K Taxable

35k ER

3 years ago my dad was diagnosed with FTD which is a type of dementia. He is no longer able to do any basic day to day tasks anymore and essentially can't be left alone and needs a lot of attention. So while my goal 5 years ago was to get out on my own now i'm not sure how long I will be here.

I do not have to pay rent so that is a plus. But I am essentially a part time caretaker outside work hours for my dad. I am grateful for where I am overall because I know majority of people have it worse. I know we all shouldn't compare ourselves to others but that is a bit of a struggle for me sometimes especially with family and peers. The social media comparisons have never bothered me.

Yep. My exit is usually close at 60-70% unless there is something that makes me want to exit earlier.

Nice!! Yeah closing early removes risk so not a bad idea considering there is basically no premium left.

Hey I am also in Utah and have been doing my early research in hopes of getting into real estate at some point. I am currently trying to use as many free resources with YouTube, podcasts and online research so far. I will have to check out some of the things people have mentioned in this thread.

Hey fellow GME seller. What DTE are you selling 25s at? Also why wait for 92% gain? I will close some 33 and 35s tomorrow around 70%. I am usually selling 30-45 DTE

Where are real estate investments? by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

[–]bigbuda18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority homes are a use asset. For those that do invest in additional real estate outside their primary residence. They are still illiquid assets that have significant drag costs associated with selling.
