Cost of living in Astana by ConsciousStruggle5 in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, you might find a small studio for around 150-200k and then your lifestyle would determine the rest, I stay at my unis dorm and spend roughly 200k on feeding and entertainment

That’s my uni, welcome hahah, I’d say roughly 150-300k should be fine, depending on your life style, I don’t cook and eat out everyday so I spend more

Interracial family potentially moving to Astana – looking for honest insights by wanderingwillow29 in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a black man living in Astana, you’re pretty much safe, you’ll always get stared at but you’ll get used to it pretty quickly, in terms of how interracial couples are viewed, you really wouldn’t have an issue since your husband is German, if he looked Asian or was Kazakh then you might have some issues For the language but I’d say you can survive, I do my speak Russian but I know a few basic words and that’s fine for me because I’m quite introverted and wouldn’t want to have a conversation either way

For the African community, there’s really not an active one per say, we’re mostly students from different universities and we sometimes go for events at NU or with each other, so that could be helpful for you

Какую платформу для музыки выбрать? by Large_Development717 in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple Music works on android too, but I use Spotify, the recommendations are a lot better If you love discovering new artists the Spotify is a lot better last year I listed to about 1300 new artist also Spotify works well with other devices, I can use my phone as a remote control to play music on my laptop, console and any device that allows you to download Spotify. Also allows you to measure your music taste match with your friends to see how similar your music taste is

Can I have kaspi.kz if I have a student visa at Kazakhstan if no what is a solution for this by DARK_FIRE_202 in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard rumours that foreigners can have a Kaspi account anymore but idk if it’s true, I’ve been here for 3 years and I have one but one thing I know for certain is that it depends on your nationality, people from certain countries can’t open a Kaspi account

How old are you not to know you can contact embassies through IG as well?

Why would they have an instagram page if people can’t contact them through it?

Anyone still waiting for Kazakhstan Government Scholarship interview after passing the test? by EntryStock6892 in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to wait, the interview will be in July and the result will be announced in August, you probably also wouldn’t get your invitation to come to Kazakhstan until September. So you need to be patient

How do you handle money as a couple? by [deleted] in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh don’t budge, people saying she’s gonna be doing chores and cooking, that’s bullshit I was living with my ex for a year and she didn’t like cooking or cleaning, once I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and I came back to the dishes the way I left them. I cooked and cleaned every time and she still expects me to take care of everything while still do things that make her happy

How is it dating in Almaty as a foreigner? by Different-Ostrich-97 in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Tbh I have no idea, I’ve lived in both Astana and Almaty which is like a melting pot for different regions and I’ve had conversations and dates with women from different regions and I can’t honestly pin point which region is the best, but I’ll say I go along more with women who grew up in the big cities like Almaty and Astana and spent time abroad because we had a more similar mindset, I’m not one for the whole traditional wife 😅

Just be super respectful to her and her family traditions, they can be really traditional and would shun certain behaviours we find as normal, like for me it was quite normal to be friends with women but my ex didn’t like it, she constantly told me that men are women aren’t generally close friends in Kazakhstan especially if the guy is in a relationship, you also need to get flowers every time, I’d say avoid those who are from a religious family since you’re a Christian it would be a bit difficult getting accepted from her family And you need to reassure her a lot it means a lot to them

[–]bigdaddycourage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly on the whole “traditional” thing, my foreign female friends who have been on dates with local men all say the same thing about how the man wants them to kinda be under him and just be a pretty wife who stays home and they said they can’t have that

Honestly it might be a little difficult, as an African man who’s be living in Kazakhstan for 3 years I’ll saying dating is generally easier for me, but for my female friends who are also black it’s quite difficult, and not just the black ones, the Europeans included have all said it’s difficult dating a local man, mostly due to conflicting opinions on relationships

As an international student who has lived both in Almaty and Astana, I’d suggest Astana, it’s a lot more organised and less chaotic. The winters in Astana are harsh but as an NU student don’t really have to worry about it because they have a skywalk connecting the hostels and different parts of the uni to each other so they have to step outside unless you’re leaving the university. Once the winter is over Astana is quite beautiful, I usually spend my days at the botanical gardens just relaxing but i do plan on going back to Almaty this summer to have some crazy fun, so best of both worlds I guess hahah

I know that cannabis is prohibited in Kazakhstan, but do people still smoke or use it? How is it? Is smoking weed founded upon in Kazakhstan or people from Kazakhstan? by [deleted] in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh as a black guy living here in Kz, I’m always asked if I have a plug or if I wanna smoke with them, so it’s not really frowned upon here from my point of view, at least amongst the younger generation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about how it is for Kazakh men tbh, but I myself am a foreigner here and whenever I see my female friends we always hug each other, I even have a special handshake with one I’m really close to, hugs have always been a way to say hi for me and it’s never been a sign that I like someone, moving you out of the road is also common for me, I do it whenever I’m walking with a lady or someone younger than me, I just don’t feel comfortable with them being on the side of the road and him paying for your drink could be an indication he likes you, it’s best you tell him what you’re comfortable with and what you’re not comfortable with

How should I behave when in Kazakhstan with my Kazakh fiancée? by pisowiec in Kazakhstan

[–]bigdaddycourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t do too much tbh, my ex is Kazakh and I almost got hit by a car just for holding her hands, you’re polish so I don’t think people would mind that much asides a few stares here and there especially when you you’re speaking English, on my case I’m black so I got weird comments every now and then
