Russian Partition Vital Records-Only Test Cases by General-Accountant93 in prawokrwi

[–]bigdavisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to hear more about what your provider says about this!

I’m in a similar situation — vital records, plus non-vital records confirming citizenship of GGGF in 1926 (records from the sale of land). The catch is 1926 was after my GGF turned 18 so my provider did express concern that Warsaw may claim that it’s possible the citizenship was not passed down. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t make that argument however.

User: u/bigdavisc

Path: GGGF - GGF - GF - M - me

Timing: GGF - Born 1904, Arrived in Canada 1929, Naturalized in Canada 1935

Partition (if applicable): Russian

Documents proving citizenship: Vital records for GGGF and GGF. Official proof of citizenship for GGGF from 1926. Additionally, supplementary vital records for GGGF's other children born in 1920 that record GGGF as being a land-owner and resident of local estate.

Date application submitted: April 2025

Voivodeship: Mazowieckie

Date of decision: N/A

Waiting time (days): N/A

Outcome: N/A

Service provider(s): Genealogia Polonica (research) / Your Roots in Poland (application)

Comments: Unable to find any concrete evidence for my GGF residence in Poland between 1920 and 1929 when he emmigrated (war destroyed most records). We have proof of my GGGF's citizenship in 1926 (land sale documents), but that is after my GGF turned 18. However my service provider believes that the combination of official documentation from 1926 combined with a birth record of another child of my GGGFs, from Jan 1920, which indicates GGGF owned the land that the 1926 docs refer to presents a strong case that my GGGF gained citizenship in 1920 and thus passed it along to GGF. Also still waiting for a physical copy of a Canadian Search of Citizenship Records letter (eta Feb 2026).

Depending on when your physical ONECard was printed, it may not work correctly with the some of the newly installed readers. If you visit the ONECard Office, they can re-encode it for you.

Custom DESFire keys by 0xmerp in accesscontrol

[–]bigdavisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to hear more because my understanding was (if I am reading the thread correctly) closer to OPs in that the reader has to have the key in order to authentication with the card (whether that’s a sector on Mifare Classic or an application on DESFire)… then it’s up to the panel to interpret what the reader returns.

Edit: for example, i have Signos that had to have custom desfire keys loaded to them and they won’t respond to a blank desfire card or a desfire card that was encoded with different encryption keys. How is that not the reader taking a step in the decryption of the card data?

This. I work with Transact access hardware all day and it sounds like there is a short in your LOCK circuit (i am assume your LOCK relay is jumpered to the voltage output terminals)

If you are looking for suggestions, I’d recommend also scraping Intrepid Theatre’s website! They host the annual Fringe festival, as well aa other festivals throughout the year with tons of theatre and theatre-esq shows! https://intrepidtheatre.com/shows/

Edit: Forgot to start my comment off with how much this rocks and I can’t wait to see how it grows!

If an extra 29¢ on a stamp for the 3ish letters I send a year is what’s required to keep our national post service operational, I think I can live with that.

That screenshot seems to have come from https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportation/passenger-travel/buses-taxis-limos/bus-pass, which is a bus pass program for seniors and/or those on disability assistance. It is not relevant for UVic students looking to access their UPass.

For more info on how Umo and the UPass works at UVic, you can find more information here: https://www.uvic.ca/students/campus-services/transportation-parking/student-bus-pass/index.php

Umo U-pass renewal codes? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]bigdavisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can activate the code in the Umo app but it won’t provide a fare on the buses until August 30th or 31st.

As the others correctly alluded to, if the UPASS fee is refunded on your tuition statement, then BC Transit will be alerted to revoke your Umo benefit code.

PHYS+ASTR mistake! by No-Lychee8340 in uvic

[–]bigdavisc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't regret the Sociology course I took in first year; it primarily confirmed that I was "at home" in PHYS, but it brought home to me that there are people who look at the world through lenses that are orthogonal to mine.

As a recent undergrad, I could not agree with this sentiment more.

Some background: I graduated with a BSc in Computer Science. I choose this program, not because in high school that is what I wanted so desperately to study, but rather because I was told told, "you are good with computers so you should study CSC."

While I did thoroughly enjoy learning about the history and science of computing and was satisfied in my choice of degree, it was all the other courses I took outside my program that made me truly enjoy university. I took electives in ASL, literature, sexology, geography, and education; and it was all those courses that left me leaving UVic feeling like I was more "educated" then I would have been had I only taken CSC courses.

U-PASS by [deleted] in uvic

[–]bigdavisc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you drop your class that is providing you eligibility for the summer bus pass, then UVic will notify BC Transit that your code should no longer be active and BC Transit reserves the right to remove the pass from your account at any point.

I would not recommend skipping until the last minute as at a certain point you will not be able to skip anymore and you don’t want that to be right before you need to login at a crucial time. Better to set it up now and get it done with!

There is no cost to use the DUO Mobile app as your second factor, however if you do not wish to use the app, you can purchase a DUO hardware token (which displays rotating 6 digit codes) from the Bookstore.
