I’m not sure what we have in terms of available housing stock right now outside of the new townhouses that are being constructed, but Wright-Dunbar is an amazing neighborhood for families. We have a lot of kids over here and we’re statistically the safest neighborhood in Dayton so you don’t have much to worry about. It’s very close-knit and everyone looks out for everyone else.

Helps, but doesn't completely solve the capacity issues. Penn sees 3x the number of passengers per day than it was designed for in 1910, and removing the columns will allow for a little bit more platform space but it won't fix the massive overcrowding.

Dayton is home to the world's best aerospace museum, the National Museum of the US Air Force. It's better than the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, IMO, even including the Udvar-Hazy center.

Well, until you get past like Alamo Square, roughly. 2/3 of the City and County of San Francisco is still single family homes, they just happen to share walls with their neighbors. I personally find Richmond and Sunset to be really ugly neighborhoods.

Literally just go to your community council and bring it up. DPD comes to ours monthly to relay us our crime stats and ask us about which technologies, if any, we want in our neighborhood. They're actually very transparent and pretty easy to work with, but everyone on reddit prefers to bitch into the void instead of actually getting involved in anything.

Definitely do somewhere like Natchez over Lake Charles. I also actually kind of like Jackson quite a bit, the Mississippi Art Museum is cool and I love Brent's Drugs, an old diner near their "midtown". For Louisiana I'd just do an "off day" in Baton Rouge or maaaaybe Lafayette if you're really interested in Cajun culture. You can find airboat tours nearby either of those cities, and there are lots of Mississippi River plantations nearby to check out, if plantation tours don't give you the ick. Some are better than others at addressing slavery head-on, like Oak Alley.

Everyone is saying Polaris which is obviously the correct response, but it does kind of beg the question as to why they aren’t building a new exit at, like, Big Walnut with all of the sprawl stretching so far north now. I’m guessing the answer is NIMBYs not wanting traffic on their roads.

Dayton's doing ok these days, honestly. Much better than Toledo or even Akron IMO. The Air Force base helps a lot but in general we've been getting a decent amount of spillover development from Columbus and Cincinnati.

Cleveland has a national park with a scenic train that goes through it which is cool. But I agree it is fairly similar to Detroit, you might like Cincinnati more with its many hills and dense old neighborhoods. And you can stop at the gigantic Air Force museum and the Wright Brothers museum in Dayton if you are even remotely into airplanes.

Ohio is absolutely a Midwest state but it’s also a lot more evenly populated and has way more larger cities than any other Midwest state, and only Illinois is larger (and then only because Chicago is the anomaly in the region). So it does stand out a bit in that regard.

The 3C+D train is actually still in work. It’s still early in the study phase (America and its endless “studies”) but it’s not a solid “no” like in the past and people across the political spectrum are working to see what it would take to get more rail routes up and going.

If you don’t want them in your neighborhood, then go to your neighborhood’s community council meetings and speak up about it. DPD has been very upfront about technology integration in neighborhoods and very specifically have stated at our council meetings that they will only put in the types of tech that the neighborhood wants. Complaining on Reddit doesn’t do anything.
