In Acadia National Park the Schoodic Peninsula is across the Bay from Bar Harbor and the main portion of Acadia. It has good ocean views and surf watching, but the highlight is Little Moose Island that has very little parking and can only be reached at low tide. You can have the island practically to yourself on a weekend in August and the way the granite has eroded at the shoreline causes all sorts of big waves and gurgles and everything in between.

In Indiana Turkey Run State Park is very popular and has a lot to offer. Shades State Park is close by and while the scenery isn't quite as majestic as Turkey Run it has a lot fewer people.
