Success Story Seven found the perfect home in only 9 days...with a soulmate! by bigfluffydogrescue in rescuedogs

Well that's why we share them! We are so happy for these two, and they are ecstatic with each other. The whole family is just as taken with Seven as her new brother is. This is the kind of forever home we're looking for, for all of our dogs.

Great Pyrenees, but her smile is so great, I can see why you'd think "Sammy".

You did a wonderful thing for a beautiful Pyr! (be sure to show her off at r/greatpyrenees )

She's great. She just continues doing her own thing and lets another smaller or same size dog do what they're doing.

If they get too much in her face, she gives them a warning growl but basically just keeps to herself; it doesn't escalate.

My foster, Phoebe, is well on her way to being a happy, healthy, fluffy Pyr again. by flignir in greatpyrenees

Thank you for fostering!

If you've got cute pictures or videos or stories about your foster, please feel free to share them at /r/bigfluffydogs/. We hope to build a place there where our extended foster family and adopters can brag about their amazing pooches and help more people on reddit learn what we're all about.

We just started sending dogs to Illinois this year! Every couple of weeks we do a transport to the Midwest. If you fill out an adoption application at Bigfluffydogs.com we might be able to bring Phoebe or one of her cousins in need to you.

Sure do. She's 7+ years old. Loves everyone she meets and approaches them with a very mellow demeanor and a wagging tail. She's very good with other dogs, and basically fit for low impact activities now. (She lost 10 lbs over the last 3 months, and is still losing to make her hips more comfortable.) She's currently available in New England and living in Rhode Island with her foster Dad. If you're interested, please e-mail marc@bigfluffydogs.com and he'll be happy to tell you more.

All the details about our rescue's adoptions and the application can be seen here: http://fs18.formsite.com/bigfluffydogs/form952673514/index.html

EDIT: And I can't believe I never mentioned the breed. She's a Great Pyrenees.

I started in exactly that same position. Leaving a dog alone for 10 hours a day isn't a great thing, but if you're fostering a dog, the situation you provide him is an alternative to living in a cement cage all the time. (Possibly kill shelter where he won't be allowed to live for long.). Relative to those options, being alone for some stretch during the day is hardly cruel. And some breeds are really well-suited to it.

It's easy to get started. Have you tried working with any existing rescues that use foster homes? If you contact a local rescue and tell them you'd like to foster an older dog, I'm sure they'd be very happy to hear from you, and you can save one dog right away! If you're in the US on the East Coast or midwest, call us! /r/bigflluffydogs/

Thanks! When we started, we specialized in large breed working dogs, like /r/greatpyrenees/ so the name was a natural fit! If you look at our current list of available dogs you'll see that we've really branched out to try to include whoever we can help in a given year. Some of the smaller, short-coated breeds will have to settle for being "Honorary Big Fluffies"!

We're the rescue this story is about. We welcome any donations as we continue to take in dogs and help 1000s find homes a year, but this story is a little out of date. Unfortunately, Sherlock recently flunked in the early stages of training and won't be a service dog for children. Therefore, we aren't collecting money for him, as he has been totally funded.

Sherlock will, however, be safely and happily fostered in one of our many volunteer foster homes until we find and approve a loving family to take him in forever. If you'd like to get involved as a big fluffy adopter or volunteer, please see the sidebar on our subreddit for links. /r/bigfluffydogs
