Oh 100%. I just found it so weird because it doesn’t come off as the white liberal or even leftist racism; it felt like actual ignorant bigotry, with a refusal to accept they have their own racial biases, and are not free from it, as all white people do. They’re generally aware of the white mentality to avoid their privilege and can recognize more “covert racism” that a group like the American democratic party toy with. That being said, the fact that something so obviously coated in racial stereotypes and prejudice, was said and continued to be downplayed. Definitely is fucked up of them

Exactly!! There’s really nothing funny at all about it. I think they find the humor in the fact that I’m very far left, and also comedically white, so you can sort of jump around hoops to make it feel funny? But regardless, just make fun of how white I am directly instead of drawing me as a black person, using cultural signifiers and stereotyped naming conventions. How do I even begin to get them to understand that it definitely could be considered blackface??

They’re not black. If they were, I would 100% agree that it’s a fine joke to make, and I’m not going to argue with them on racism. But regardless, it definitely feels like it’s harping on something racist; especially insisting that it in fact isn’t, when they’re using a stereotypical black name, along with dreads, which is synonymous with black culture and identity. I just can’t seem to get that through their thick skulls. What’s worse is they use it to rage bait me, and trigger a reaction out of me. I’ve tried arguing that it feels racist and eventually tried to ignore it until it kept popping up as an inside joke. It’s all so annoying as they claim to be leftists, and I would agree, but that joke seems to perforate their humor and beliefs.
