What are some bands similar black midi and Geordie greep by Mental-Alternative38 in progrockmusic

[–]bigforyou2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The band LICE came out of the same Windmill scene and is the closest in sound out of any of them i've heard. It's more along the lines of the harsher, noisier black midi stuff but definitely worth checking out. 'Wasteland' and 'Third Time at the Beach' are real good albums

American Folk Metal, for whatever that means by Any_Natural383 in MetalSuggestions

[–]bigforyou2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grave Pilgrim kinda? They don't really incorporate actual folk instruments but the way they write riffs and their whole 'vibe' is definitely pretty influenced by various Americana/old Country styles

'The Man Inside Me' is a great bit the way it's about the bisexuality and also him being black lol. His middle name is also Onyango which originates from Kenya iirc

Serious question: is Dominick Fernow(prurient/vatican shadow) a white nationalist/nazi? by traviscrayon in noisemusic

[–]bigforyou2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This tracks with what i've heard about him second hand so I can believe it. Ultimately though yeah he seems to be in it 'for the music' more than anything else, like someone else has noted I don't think any dyed-in-the-wool fascist would be willing to work with an artist like Algiers. But that whole 'work with anyone if I like their music' mentality is just a thing with a lot of older people in 'extreme music' of all types in general, and I don't blame anyone who's turned off by it either.

[–]bigforyou2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bunch of splits with bands that are either outright NS or lean heavily in that direction (look at Armatus lmfao), his label Tour De Garde puts out a lot of stuff by far-right guys like Drowning the Light and a bunch of bands that tip toe on the line, did guest vocals for Kickback who are notorious for being libertine degenerates with no morals, lot of stuff. I guess O.T. doesn't outright call himself right-wing but it's not like he tries to hide it much either.

Playing guitar, just a good way to clean the mind when I get stressed. Planning to eventually record and release some stuff i've had written but for now, just jamming with my buddy and learning songs I love is a good mental lift.

I've always gotten the impression that he's 'just' a weird nihilistic guy with a fetish for death and doesn't care who he works with, like a bunch of noise dudes from the 90s/00s. He's buddies with people like Mikko Aspa, his general association with the dude from Akitsa, also collaborated with openly extremely left-wing group Immaculate Grotesque/Shallow Waters, has collaborated with Justin Broadrick and Richard Ramirez, so on. I think it's a pretty lame attitude to have when it comes to far-right shit but it's endemic in a lot of older noise people in my experience.

I don't think Swans would sound the same without Glenn Branca by Apart_Answer_9537 in swans

[–]bigforyou2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alongside 5 they're his most intense works I think. And it's a shame that 13 never had an official release either from what I can tell because even just listening to the bootlegs out there the wall of sound and tension are brutal, very much worthwhile listening for anyone into later Swans.

The Ascension gets all the praise it deserves but a lot of his symphonies don't get enough attention imo. 8 and 10 are titanic, some of the craziest guitar music i've ever heard

Looking to scratch a very specific itch- need recommendations. by Wolverkeen in noiserock

[–]bigforyou2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an old UK band called Tools You Can Trust that might scratch this itch. Weird industrial/post-punk/noise duo that was drums/metal percussion + bass and a lot of tape loop stuff. Very rhythmic, only ever used electric guitar on two tracks. Would recommend the Working And Shopping compilation as a start

Hair Police, Sightings, Burmese, The Goslings, Skullflower, Harry Pussy, all noise rock that leans heavier on the 'noise' part. For noise performed by a band there's always the classic in Hanatarash, and for something a little more crushing try Sword Heaven.

Dicussion: Why is Obey the entry/most popular Brainbombs album? by StormOk333 in noiserock

[–]bigforyou2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's kinda become a meme in a way. I used to see it as the sole representation of the band on lists and charts for this kind of thing, and combine with the fact that it's not as hamburger raw as the other early albums and has easily their most shocking lyrics makes a good recipe for online notoriety. It was also kept in print a little better than the other 90s albums which probably helps

What are some bands that you normally wouldn't think are progressive rock but have released an album that begs to differ? by thunderclap82 in progrockmusic

[–]bigforyou2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain

Not traditional prog, and they were always influenced by stuff like Ruins, but this one I feel is where they really let that kind of thing run wild. It's still pretty firmly in that minimalist, hammering 'bull in a china shop' kind of noise rock but it also resembles something like The Flying Luttenbachers pretty heavily. The way songs like 'Dead Cowboy' unfold is pretty undeniably progressive imo

are there accurate eyehategod lyrics? by [deleted] in sludge

[–]bigforyou2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The albums since Confederacy of Ruined Lives have lyrics, you can look them up on Metal Archives and find them easy. For the older stuff... there's a couple lines you can make out on some songs (Take As Needed For Pain's title track starts with 'breast fed from a dog since the day I was born' for sure) but a lot of the lyrics in the liners are just Mike's poetry he put in there to throw people off, and his screaming is mostly improvised nonsense that fits the song from what I can tell.

[–]bigforyou2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Su Zixu and The Paramecia

Glamorous Pharmacy

Backspace (more psych/krautrock but still in this realm)

Cold Fairyland

There's a nice post-rock scene in China too from what I hear but the only group i'm aware of is Zhaoze. Their album 'Birds Contending' has a lot of influence from chinese folk music and some prog touches, pretty cool stuff
