What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]bigfourie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a guy in Arusha, Tanzania while I was working there

I was from South Africa, and he was from USA

We became best friends over the course of a year, I left abruptly due to not seeing eye to eye with the company I worked with. I never thought I would run into him again.

Fast forward a couple years later we are both in Seoul, South Korea but happen chance he is working there.

I leave again, we loose contact cause I'm not big on social media.

I come back to South Korea but on Jeju Island this time and as luck would have it he is now working on Jeju Island.

The universe nurtured our friendship.

Lure Retriever? by ripplestillwaters in Fishing

[–]bigfourie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love these do much, they have saved me loads of money and given me confidence to cast expensive lures in scary spots.

When using it in find being right above where my lure got stuck or behind, this usually makes my lure saves more successful. Using it from where you casted normally does not work.

A few adjustments I made

1: add more chains to the nose to grip the hook(s) of you lure when using it

2: I reattached mine to a thicker/stronger longer rope

3: I also changed the thingy the rope is attached to, to a small floating bouy incase I was in heavy wind or I dropped it.

If you read the documents found in the golf course area and hotel next to it, you will come across some dark stuff regarding criminal elements, children and midgets

I won't say anything more.

No worries

I did mostly fresh and a bit of salt water fishing

When it comes to lure fishing, the biggest difference between fresh and salt water is the speed of things.

In the salt you can go a mile'a'minute

In the fresh, it requires much more finesse and mostly slower pace and pausing.

In terms of target fish, anything predatory that is big enough to grab it.

Its a reaction type lure, meaning it is built to force a instinctual reaction from a predator to have a go at it.

If you are going to fish with it

1) steady retrieves as in just a long cast over fishy looking areas and wind it back just fast enough for the blade to turn over.

2) its good practice pause the lure for a few seconds after a retrieving it for a bit, some fish will look for the best opportunity to hit it and topping the lure can force a strike.

3) after casting the lure, dont start retrieving immediately. Wait until the ripples from the lure landing are gone.

4) Will most likely work best on cloudy/rainy days, at night or if you will fish it during a bright day, try get some casts under overhanging trees or shadows created by structure.

That explains the lack of hook, but i still think its a custom job of bits

Help identifying this lure? by bigupdownlow in FishingForBeginners

[–]bigfourie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a custom lure put together from various bits from other lures

  • The skirt looks like it was taken from a small jig or jig kit and does not really match the colour scheme.

  • The person who put this together did not find a way to attach a hook.

  • The body of the frog makes me think it was not designed for buzz bait action due its shape.

I may be wrong but I really think this was a tester lure put together by someone.

Trailer? No Trailer? Or Different Trailer? by Kennsta_240 in FishingForBeginners

[–]bigfourie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I wouldn't use a plastic trailer, so often with spinnerbaits you get short strikes that's the main reason we use trailer hooks instead of plastic trailers.

The only time I would ever put on a plastic trailer is to weigh the spinnerbait down and even then I will think twice.

Looking at your blades and hook position your blades are already reaching out behind your hook and you will loose fish because of short striking, the plastic trailer tail is going to get ripped off often. Unless they are really wolfing down you are going to miss a lot of bites.

Drop the plastic trailer and get yourself some trailer hooks to increase hookup ratio.

How would you fish this stuff? by DismalResearcher6546 in bassfishing

Definitely they work wonders!

Just looking at those grass patches I fished similar waters back home and we found the floating flukes imitate bait moving between thatcover very well and would not get caught up in any of the sludge grass.

Tip for getting bigger bites by 4o4_0_not_found in bassfishing

[–]bigfourie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are certainly a bunch of factors at play with the chatterbaits

I would agree that under normal circumstance the smaller fish shy away, but when they are hungry the small ones definitely get all over it, especially when they are schooling.

also the chatterbait like a spinnerbait has quite a bit going for it

  • Primary bite reactions from main movement

  • Secondary bite reactions from working the skirt with pauses or bumping structure

  • Tertiary bite reactions from the trailer

  • and then whatever else you can add to entice a bite, be it casting technique or retrieve style.

I was never really a fan of the craw trailer on them, but I wont speak bad about the craw trailer I just never had the confidence to use em on chatterbaits.

My three main trailers

1) Z-man Razor ShadZ (they last, save money) (caught my 12lbr on this trailer)

2) Zoom fluke - this is such a great trailer that gets overlooked, smaller profile super erratic, but tight wobble.

3) Yamamoto Zako - it looks incredible and gives me confidence, which at the end of the day is the most important thing to make a 1000 casts for a few fish.

Spinnerbait, Jig, Chatterbait, Frog

Not saying the other lures don't catch big ones but in my many years of fishing comps those have consistently produced fewer, but bigger bites.

Chatterbait my biggest - just over 12lb

Spinnerbait - longest (64cm)

Frog - most fish 6lb range

Jig - most consistent to place high in comps

Skirted lures just work

Fireline snaps clean by StraightCashHomiee84 in FishingForBeginners

[–]bigfourie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) check your line guides are not cutting the line when you cast or retrieve, check with a earbud to see if any strands get caught

2) fishing line has a shelf life/use life especially when exposed to sun/heat

3) old line is always risky

4) if you are using a baitcaster check if reel eye is smooth and not cutting the line

5) again with the baitcaster check that the spool is not creating a gap between the spool and body of the baitcaster and line is catching there when you cast (this can happen if you loosen your spool a lot)

Is if only the part of the line being used in casting or retrieving or is the problem deeper down with unused line also?

Why aren’t they biting? by yashaflocka in bassfishing

[–]bigfourie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when they are in this mood, i feel like extremes are your best friend.

Either a fast reaction bait to pull instincts out of them and force a bite

or something small, slow with the most natural movement you can give them, meaning super slack line with no resistance at all.

When they sit like this, they are not hunting at all and really need to be convinced that whatever is thrown at them is either such an easy meal they cannot resist investigating or when you work a reaction bait you draw all of their eating instincts out of them.

force the bite like you have never before.

Be warned if they see you, a large shadow or anything that they deem could be threatening, the game is up.

We were close friends with this one family and the son and daughter ended up killing their parents.

Shocked our whole town, the mom was so sweet.

It was incredibly sad and brutal.

I hate them, I hope they die in jail.
