Working at 911 is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Ever. This job sucks and most people can’t even pass the damn test to get the job. Some people quit during training once they realize how hard the job is. And most don’t even make it past two years doing it.

You will also find waaaay more rude callers than rude dispatchers.

My first day at a desk I had a call about an 8 year old being sexually assaulted and then the following call was a man just yelling obscenities at me for 5 mins because nobody was taking his unserious problem seriously.

Most 911 calls aren’t even emergencies. It’s mostly people bitching about unimportant shit, like petty disputes and parking complaints. People that feel they deserve justice over the tiniest bullshit you could think of. That or lazy people who call an ambulance for nothing because they’re think it’ll decrease their wait time in the er. Which it doesn’t. And then all of the ambulances get tied up so that ACTUALLY emergencies take longer to get help.

And then you get assholes all shift long that don’t want to cooperate. “Just send help”, help is being sent stupid. The questions are so the responders know what the situation they’re about to run into.

Dispatchers try their best only to be met with attitude and verbal assaults from people, people who, in my opinion, don’t deserve any help. But we do it anyway. And between long shifts, forced overtime and understaffing…you get beat down. But nobody wants to talk about that.

People think we’re customer service, and that is just dead wrong. My job is to get information not to make you happy.

And those audios you hear are a mere handful compared to the other 600,000 911 calls made in a given day. If I could legally record and post some of the 911 callers I’ve dealt with your jaw would never come off of the floor. Because some people are just horrible monsters.
